McDougal Orchards is a seventh (going on eigth!) generation family farm in Southern Maine dedicated to providing high quality fruit and high quality time spent outdoors. Visit our orchards to pick over 40 varieties of apples, peaches, plums, pears, pumpkins and more, and don't forget to stop at the Farm Store in our historic barn to pick up apple c***r, pre-picked fruit and a variety of local products.

We are gearing up for what will be our last big weekend for picking, we have our latest varieties open for you, and the orchards are completely open for gleaning from any trees you come across.

Starting today (even in the rain!) we have the following available to pick:

THIS WEEKEND: pick ugly McIntosh and Cortland from our oldest trees for your pies, applesauce, apple butter, and c***r! $15/peck (~10lbs)

On weekdays you can pick up drops for $1/lb or $15/half-bushel (~20lbs)

Raspberries (we have not gotten a freeze up here on the ridge, so the berries are looking just fine!)

Available in the Farm Store (no u-pick avaialable, limited amounts): Black Oxford, Ashmead's Kernel, Northern Spy

the end of the season! We plan to stay open as long as we have apples, and are hoping that will be the very end of the month.

Captain Jack's Donut Shack will have their last weekend for hot donuts and Gringos - Wells Beach will be here Saturday and Sunday for delicious lunch and snack options.

Just a Sliver Baked Goods will also be here for a pop-up on Saturday 10/17 from 11am-2pm with breads, bakes and bites!

Our 'Strange Apple Museum' gets new additions through the season. Today's notable entrys include 'raisin' and the tiniest apple we've found all season. No it isn't a crab apple, it's a Macoun! For scale it is next to the heaviest apple we've found so far, a 1.1lb Northern Spy!

Join us for our 6th annual Apple Tasting on Saturday, October 24th from 5:30-7:30pm
$20/person (children under 12 free)
Come for an evening of apples, history and community! We will have slices of over 25 of the apple varieties that we grow, as well as some varieties from our neighbors at Ferment Farm. Goat cheese from Flying Goat Farm and crackers will be provided as a palate cleanser, and we encourage you to BYOB and even BYO picnic dinner to spend an evening listening to Andrew LaVogue acoustic in our historic barn learning about apples and finding new favorites!
We will have some of our favorite apple books out for you to look through, plus an apple genetics activity and plenty of history about the varieties that are available to try. Variety lists will be provided for you to take notes on the apples that you try.

Yes, we are open today! 9am-5pm
We have adventures for apples out in the orchard (plenty of Golden Delicious and Crispin/Mutsu, and a good amount of Evercrisp, the hunt is on for other varieties!). Our maze is still up and there are raspberries for those who are willing to spend some time in the rows!
The Donut Shack is NOT open today, and we will not be running wagon rides, but we have lots of open space for exploring and it should be a beautiful day!

It's going to be a beautiful weekend at the orchard!
We are currently picking:
Macoun
A few Empire
Golden Delicious
Crispin/Mutsu
Evercrisp
and we have a few heirlooms in the Farm Store.
Apples are still abundant on some rows, and more of a scavenger hunt on others, but we have lots of pumpkins, applesauce apples and of course hot donuts from Capt Jack’s Donut Shack on Saturday and Sunday!
Wagon rides will run from 10-4 Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting)
Gringos will be back serving up excellent lunch and snack options from 12-5 both weekend days.
We are running an applesauce special on our oldest McIntosh and Cortland trees in the back orchard, pick a peck bag (~10lbs) for $15! They have spots on them and some are small, but they make a fine sauce or juice!

Hard to believe it’s been TEN years since we installed a 20-kilowatt solar array on the barn at .orchards. Since then, they’ve produced 250,000 kWh of clean solar energy, offsetting over 360,000 pounds of carbon.🍎🎃We strongly recommend celebrating their Solarversary with a c***r donut (or 12) this weekend - they’re open for apple picking and wagon rides!

We have restocked with mums and pumpkins after the busy weekend!
It's an adventure out in the orchards this time of year, we have plenty of apples still, it's just more of a walk to get to them.
We still have a few more weeks left in the season, come spend a day at the orchard!

October might be our favorite month.
It is peak apple season with many of our favorite and funky apple varieties ripening, plus everything seems to slow down, there is more wandering and wondering, and we start to savor what we know is the last month of our harvest season.
The remaining leaves on our black walnut tree on the front lawn represent where we are in the harvest timeline, half our season has already gone by, but the rest is looking golden and promising!

It's going to be another beautiful Fall day here at the orchard! Take advantage of Saturday and Sunday when Capt Jack’s Donut Shack is open for hot donuts and drinks!
We will have apple c***r donuts by the dozen in the Farm Store through the week, but weekends are the time to come get your hot buckets!
We still have plenty of apples and raspberries to pick for you, too!

The leaves aren't the only colorful things worth seeing in October!
This time of year is when we have the most diversity of apple varieties. We will have more varieties ripening throughout the month, and different heirlooms in our Farm Store each week, plus some late season favorites still to come like Granny Smith and Evercrisp that are some of our last varieties to ripen.
