The two wheel tractor is the most important piece of equipment on our farm! Over a year into this mentorship program, we're so glad to have finally gotten around to teaching Kate and Allison about it!

Spent a great morning learning all about the 2-wheel tractor out at Dirt Rich Farm as part of American Farmland Trust | New York and American Farmland Trust 'Women for the Land' program!

It's summer in the farm stand! There has been an explosion in the variety of produce we have! Additions today include head lettuce, spring mix, spicy salad mix, basil, cilantro, and kale. Best of all, all of our produce is Certified Organic and grown right here at our farm! We carry eggs from two local farmers, Snowy Brook Farm in East Concord and Mark Keem in East Aurora.

We have a VERY small amount of our Certified Organic strawberries in the farm stand right now, but they'll go quickly! Every time I pick strawberries, I post about them in the farm's Instagram stories and Facebook stories.

Here's what's in the farm stand:

Organic Swiss Chard
Organic Kale
Organic Spicy Salad Mix
Organic Bok Choy
Organic Spring Mix
Organic Head Lettuce
Organic Radishes
Organic Salad Turnips
Organic Rhubarb
Organic Parsley
Organic Oregano
Organic Basil
Organic Cilantro
Organic Daikon Radishes
Organic Green Garlic
Local Eggs

Our farm stand is located on the front porch of the barn at 12318 Springville Boston Rd, Springville, NY 14141. It is self-serve and open 24/7. We accept cash (exact change), checks, and Venmo.

Eleanor and I made it out into the field yesterday afternoon! We have spent our spring doing greenhouse work together, but there's less and less of that to do as we move into summer. So yesterday, I spent over two hours hoeing some lettuce, radishes, and parsnips with her on my back. She had no complaints about the experience, and even slept for 50 minutes of it! I'm looking forward to doing more work with her in the field soon!

If you come see us at the Hamburg Farmers Market one of these Saturday mornings, what are you going to find? June is the month of greens, so we've been harvesting spring mix, spicy salad mix, kale, Swiss chard, bok choy, and parsley, plus radishes, salad turnips, and green garlic. Later this month, we'll probably also have head lettuce, garlic scapes, collard greens, and more! And of course, as the growing season goes on, we'll be bringing more and more things to the market. In late summer, we'll have two to three dozen different kinds of vegetables and herbs for you to choose from!

Dirt Rich Farm is the only Certified Organic vegetable farm at the Hamburg Farmers Market! We'll be at the market (which is located at 45 Church St in Hamburg) every Saturday from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm through the end of June. Look for us across from the alpacas! We accept cash, checks, debit/credit cards, and Venmo at the market.

Excited about our newest sign out front of the farm, a small purple and white one, highlighting our role as a farm providing food to the School District! The Springville schools started buying our produce last year for their lunch program, and they quickly turned into one of our best wholesale customers. When we have a bumper crop of something, the school district easily has the capacity to absorb our bounty. We're so lucky to be growing in a school district that does scratch cooking and has been working to integrate as much local food as possible into their menus!

Springtime means weeding time! With landscape fabric, there's less weeds to manage, but the crops are planted into holes we burn into the fabric for them, and those holes have to get weeded every now and then.

It's been a beautiful week for working in the field, and Ryan and the crew have gotten so many heat-loving crops transplanted! Here, Layna is transplanting cucumbers. The white coating on them is a kind of clay that acts kind of like a sunscreen for tender seedlings!
