It's harvest season, the perfect time to support your local farm! Our farm stand still has summer vegetables, like tomatoes, peppers, and green beans, as well fall vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and beets. There's still four more Saturdays of the Hamburg Farmers Market, and we'll be there for every one of them with our Certified Organic vegetables! We hope to see you at the market on October 10th, October 17th, October 24th, and October 31st from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm on the grounds of the Moose Lodge at 45 Church St in Hamburg.

Our current offerings include baby ginger, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers, greens, and more! In the coming weeks, we'll be bringing more root vegetables, including parsnips, rutabagas, and daikon radishes. All of our produce is Certified Organic and grown on our farm in Springville!

Our winter squash field has worked long and hard this growing season. As the days get shower and colder, the plants rush to ripen their fruit before they die. With the frost that's predicted for Monday night, it was winter squash harvest day today. The plants will probably die in the frost, and we don't want their fruit to get damaged, so the clock has run out on winter squash ripening.

Our Late Fall CSA is BACK! Get a box of Dirt Rich Farm vegetables every other Tuesday, from late October through late December. All of the vegetables are Certified Organic and grown on our farm in Springville! You can choose to pick up your box at the farm or get it delivered to your home.

Each box will will contain 10 items chosen by the farmers, but members will have the option to swap out two items that they don’t want for two items that they’d prefer. The share will primarily consist of vegetables like winter squash, potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, beets, other root vegetables, and greens.

A Late Fall CSA share is $200 ($40/box). Boxes will be distributed on October 27th, November 10th, November 24th, December 8th, and December 22nd. You can pick up your share at the farm on these Tuesdays from 8 am to 6 pm.

If you would like home delivery, the delivery fee is $60 ($12/delivery). We deliver to Concord, Hamburg, Orchard Park, South Buffalo, and West Seneca.

This is where the garlic was growing earlier this year. We harvested the garlic in July, then put a silage tarp over the area. The lack of light under the tarp killed the w**ds. We recently pulled the tarp off and raked up all the hay that had been there, which had acted as mulch for the garlic crop. The hay will be composted.

The next step is sowing a cover crop, which will add nitrogen to the soil and protect the soil from erosion in the winter and early spring. Then, in April or May, we'll kill the cover crop (through tarping and/or using the power harrow on the two wheel tractor) and plant more vegetables in this space.

One of the great things about growing less vegetables this year is that it has given us the ability to do more cover cropping and take better care of our soil! In the past, we'd always been trying to maximize production on our small acreage and hadn't been able to take care of our soil as well as we aspired to.

For many local vegetable farms, summer coming to an end means that sales to local consumers wind down, too. But fall is our time to shine at Dirt Rich Farm! We have about 40 different options available now in our farm stand on our farm, and we'll continue to have a good selection throughout September and October.
