It's finally our Seedling Sale weekend! Eleanor and I have worked in the greenhouse since last February to grow from seed the 10,000+ plants to sell over the course of the next several days.
When we started our first seeds of the year, Eleanor just turned three months old, and she's grown and changed so over these weeks in the greenhouse. While hanging out in the pack and play and on the baby gym while I work, she has refined her mobility skills, getting good at rolling and scooting around on her front and now her back. She has learned how to sit up and even grab objects while sitting. She has tasted the juice of the clementine Ryan was snacking on, her first food experience!
Eleanor entered the greenhouse in February hardly more than a newborn. Now, she's starting the process of becoming a little kid!
I've grown and changed as a mother, too. I've gotten comfortable using my buckle baby carrier, wearing Eleanor in it for up to four or five hours a day as I work and taking her in and out of it countless times a day for diaper changes, feedings, and to allow her to play in the pack and play and on the baby gym. I've learned how to help her fall asleep in the greenhouse, through traffic noise and fluctuatjons in light and air temperature, and stay asleep as I work with her asleep on my chest. I've learned how to ask for help from others, so I don't burn out as I try to do farmwork while simultaneously taking care of a baby. Even my appearance has changed! Gone are the long sleeve button-up shirts and ponytail braids that farmed in since 2012 or 2013. Now I wear nursing tanktops and a bun (a hairstyle that's harder for a baby to grab onto!
I entered the greenhouse in February as a new mom, uncertain of what life after maternity leave would be like. Now, I'm a working mom who's feeling more confident and comfortable in her new normal!
