Here's to you, Bob Craig! .One of the wine industry's good guys, and the original "Mountain Man," you will be sorely missed. I'll never forget the good times we shared in St. Louis and in Napa Valley.
Bob Craig passed away yesterday afternoon with Lynn at his side in Tucson, Arizona. He suffered from Parkinson’s over the last 10 years, but it never dampened his spirit, his lust for life, or his all-pervasive sense of humor. Bob founded Robert Craig Winery with two friends from business school at The University of Chicago, and one of their business partners, in 1990, with the first vintage release being the 1992. Bob was a mountain Cabernet pioneer in the Napa Valley prior to his time at Craig and spearheaded the foundation of the Spring Mountain District AVA as well as the Mount Veeder AVA during his tenure as GM of The Hess Collection winery in the 1980’s. There is simply no way to sum up such a full life in a social media post. I started my time at Robert Craig Winery in 2004, and I feel fortunate beyond description to be able to have called Bob a business partner and, even more so, a friend. To be introduced to Bob was to receive a hug from Bob. Please join his founding partners and me in wishing his wife of more than 50 years, Lynn Craig, his son Bryan and Bob’s extended family and friends well. We all raised a glass at our harvest party on Howell Mountain yesterday to a truly lovely man. Wherever you are today, I hope you can open a special bottle and make a toast to Bob and share with us any photos you may have with him. Love and peace Bob. You are greatly missed. -E
