South Grand CID Statement, Retraction and Apology

For more than 30 years, South Grand has been home to a variety of businesses and
neighbors. The business district’s motto is to be a welcoming environment to work, live, and play.

The letter that the South Grand CID (SGCID) Board of Directors recently distributed was a
serious error in judgement on our part and it did not reflect the compassion, values and
actions of the district. For that we are genuinely sorry and ask for forgiveness.
We are officially issuing a retraction of the aforementioned letter and offer this statement as our apology to the community at large.

Recent concerns around escalating violence,
vandalism, and sanitation issues have been problematic on South Grand; these issues
deserve to be addressed, but not by denying water to someone in need.

We care about finding solutions to address the issues facing our community. We have
previously sought help from our elected officials, the City of St. Louis’ Department of Human Services, Department of Health, and law enforcement. We have scheduled a meeting with Peter and Paul Community Services and Continuum of Care support staff to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses the needs of our district and community members.

Our intention is to grow stronger with our community, hand in hand. We would like to thank those of you who have helped us see the error of our ways or offered to help be a part of the solution to the complex issues facing South Grand and the St. Louis community.

We know that we have more work to do to rebuild trust, and we hope to demonstrate that commitment to improvement through our actions moving forward. Thank you for the support you have shown the South Grand Business District, and we look forward to serving the community now and into the future.

Sincerely,
SGCID Board of Directors
