🍺 **DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST CRAFT BEER?**

Not your favorite beer.

Not the best beer you've ever had.

The **first one** that made you realize beer could be something different.

If memory serves, mine was a Schlafly Beer's Pale Ale at Tom’s Bar & Grill in the Central West End.

For a young St. Louis guy raised in a world of Bud, Busch and Natural, ordering something called a “Pale Ale” felt considerably more adventurous than it probably sounds today.

Turns out, I wasn't alone.

Over the years, Schlafly has heard from plenty of St. Louis beer drinkers who say that familiar orange Pale Ale was their introduction to craft beer.

So tonight, I'm curious:

🍺 Sometimes you don’t need a story. You just need to stop by and have a beer.

Six Mile Bridge Beer celebrated its 11th anniversary this weekend, so I made my way to Maryland Heights to raise a glass.

Ryan and Lindsay Sherring have now spent more than a decade building Six Mile Bridge. And in the craft beer world of 2026, that feels particularly worth celebrating.

Thanks for the beer, Ryan and Lindsay.

Here’s to what comes next. 🍻

🥃 I have two tickets to the St. Louis Bourbon & Cocktail Festival to give away.

There is, naturally, a catch.

But before we get to the free bourbon part, there’s a reason I wanted to tell this story.

Years ago, James Thomas showed up at Drew Chostner’s house with an older single-barrel bottle of Eagle Rare.

Drew had never tried it.

James opened it. They shared some.

Then James left him the rest of the bottle.

That little moment tells you quite a bit about what they eventually built with the St. Louis Bourbon Society.

🥃 It started as a Facebook group in 2016.

🥃 Then came real-life gatherings, events and friendships.

🥃 They adopted the motto “Fellowship in the Spirit.”

🥃 And on Oct. 9, that community becomes the St. Louis Bourbon & Cocktail Festival, spreading across four blocks of Cherokee Street and DeMenil Place.

We’re talking hundreds of whiskeys, tasting lounges, live music, street performers, food trucks, cigar patios and a whole lot of people who take bourbon seriously without necessarily taking themselves quite so seriously.

🚨 If you want into Side Project Brewing’s next Library Tasting, I would not casually wander over to the ticket site tomorrow afternoon.

Tickets go on sale at NOON Thursday.

And these things can disappear fast.

If you’ve never heard of a Side Project Library Tasting, here's why beer people get a little twitchy when one is announced.

🍾 Side Project goes into its cellar and pulls vintage bottles from its archive.

🍺 A small group gets a curated, guided flight of beers selected in part for what time has done to them.

🤫 And you don't get a beer list beforehand.

That's the fun of it.

The idea comes from wine-world library tastings. Side Project started doing its version in 2024 as a way to let people experience some of the brewery's most revered beers, including bottles that may not have seen daylight in years.

And this one is a little different.

🎂 The Sept. 24 Library Tasting officially kicks off Side Project's four-day 13th anniversary celebration.

📍 Brewery Tasting Room, Maplewood
📅 Thursday, Sept. 24
⏰ 5:30 p.m.
🎟️ Tickets: NOON Thursday, Aug. 20

No lineup has been announced.

Because, apparently, knowing what you're buying a ticket to drink would be too easy. 😂
