The evening light is getting more and more slanted, which means that fall can’t be that far off. We’ve also had a couple good rain events which have cooled us off a bit and reset our drought clock without too many plant losses. But boy are we counting down to the actual fall weather over here.

Weekend bouquet for the St. Tammany Master Gardener Association’s table at the Covington La Farmer's Market yesterday.

The flowers in this bouquet are all the heat lovers - zinnias, globe amaranth, celosia, Thai basil, mahogany hibiscus foliage.

After 6 weeks of no arranging (we stop selling during the peak of summer), it was fun to pop a quick spiral bouquet together for this. (The second pic ➡️ shows the spiral from the base of the bouquet.)

August.

We always get a little quiet on social media when the summer heat starts peaking between late July and September. It’s the only time the farm really rests for us.

A few heat-loving stragglers hold on for dear life (or, in the case of these , absolutely thrive), but after a couple of years trying to power through, we no longer try to convince things to bloom through the intense heat.

Instead we start thinking about what’s next - planning for winter, prepping to put tulips into the cooler, and the seeming unending task of mowing the grass.

This summer, we also taught some gardening, growing, & flower classes with St. Tammany Parish Library and Habitat For Humanity St. Tammany West. We have so much respect for what these two organizations do in our community and love being a very small part of them. 💗

We hope everyone is staying cool. The goldenrod is towering up, just about ready to bloom, so fall can’t be too far off. 🤞🏻

Happy Papa Day, . Thank you for taking care of the kids, the plants, the goats, the chickens, the dogs, the cats, and the 🫣snake.

And happy Father’s Day to everyone who is celebrating - however you’re celebrating. 💗

This week’s duds that didn’t quite pass the quality check for the last week of our rose subscription bouquets are now sitting on our kitchen table. I can catch the scent of them from the back door as soon as I want through it, and it smells like summer.
