I always said I would never get sheep. But one thing about a farm is you should never say never.
Sheep team Six -Their mom is a 50/50 registered montadale and Dorset , dad is a registered southdown. At just 8 weeks old they have some size already making me extremely optimistic in this endever.
Our plan is to butcher them by late fall/ early winter and fill our freezer with fresh lamb full of protein packed lean meat.

Welcome to the farm OO6 and OO7 🔫

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit- okay. We are a few days late but did you know if you say rabbit 3 times on the first day of the month it’s said to bring good luck?

Princess and Petey’s babies are doing amazing with just a small litter of 4 she’s being the best mamma. One of the babies is on the smaller side but she’s thriving… pictured in the first picture is the biggest and smallest of the litter.

So even though we are a few days late let’s give the comment section a RABBIT, RABBIT,RABBIT.

Knowing your limits and staying humble is sometimes very difficult.
A few weeks ago we brought home Tank, a Beef cross. Born on 3/13 we got him at just over a month old. Typically, I like to castrate our calves within the first few weeks of birth so when I went to castrate Tank I already expected it to be a bit more tricky. What I hadn’t expected is to not be able to keep his second testicle down while trying to band him. After trying multiple times I finally decided it would be in everyone’s best interest to just call in Stafford Veterinary Center to have them come out and band him for me.
In and out within a half hour and they were able to do what I simply couldn’t.
I have done a handful of bull calves over the years and never had to call for backup. I felt dumb, useless and like a failure on my own farm. But at the end of the day my animal is taken care of, completely castrated and happy because I was able to set aside my pride.

Shouting HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our tiny farm girl Sydney River.

You can find Sydney wearing her best bows while cuddling any animal she can find. Always ready and eager to help out around the farm and making you laugh the entire time.

Not only did the Easter bunny come last night bringing landscaping tools for the kids but he brought a small litter of rabbit kits for Princess and Petey. Now would be the perfect time to finish our new rabbit hutch.

Happy Easter friend, I hope today was a good one for you too!

Yesterday was a big day for Thor-
He went to Stafford Veterinary Center and had Doctor Drew and the crew castrate and disbud him.
The whole procedure took less than a hour and Thor was home with mama right after.

The reason we disbudded and castrated him is because there is a chance we want to show him and we absolutely want to keep him as a friend. Being that his daddy is our herd sire we didn’t need another buck right now. Three of our now five goats have horns and although we love them just the same we felt it would be better for Thor to be like mama and not have horns.

Stafford vet has been my veterinarian since I was just kid, about Roman’s age. I remember Dr. Drew’s father (Dr.Dave) came out to do a farm call and had a rabbit on his truck….being the animal lover that I was I decided the rabbit would be happier if he was free, so I let him out. I am sure Dr.Dave wasn’t happy but to this day remembering that story brings me joy.

At the end of the day when you’re old and grey what are your children going to remember most? Will they be prepared for life and death and all that comes with both? Will they laugh until they cry about the good times? Will they morn for the bad?

This life is so incredible in the way when death is brought into our home life is also brought in to help dry our tears.

Two weeks ago we said goodbye to our OG farm dog Re*****on and although our hearts are hurting Fr**ga our Pygora doe gave birth last week to a tiny black buck with one white sock.

Welcome to the farm Thor, Re*****on our farm will always be what it is because of who helped create it. We know you’re watching over the farm now and forever.

I, like every other farmer am constantly learning and making our farms better everyday.

I’ve never been the type of rabbit owner to mess with a litter before the kits eyes were open. That is until recently. These last two litters I have handled all the babies and mama almost immediately. Especially this litter as I checked on mama as she was giving birth so actually saw wet, sticky babies being born. The other night I went out to check on these babies and mama and only counted 4 when I knew there was 5. I looked around and realized one kit was stuck behind the nest box, she must have been attached to mama nursing when mama jumped out and baby couldn’t get back in.

Had I not handled this litter I wouldn’t have known and we would have lost this little baby. Along with keeping track of the babies mom
seems more relaxed with me being more hands on. So this is your reminder, check on and handle babies immediately and consistently.

Today was about catching up on chores- we completely forgot about our garlic for the past few months so we had scapes that were long overdue for cutting. Here’s a few snippets of our day. There is forever a list of things that need to be done on the farm but the days we can check off a few is a good day in my book.

The grey Rex found a new home today. A birthday gift for a very special 11 year old! Happy birthday and we hope you love him!

June is national dairy month and Buster and the turkeys agree that milk is the best way to start the day.

Buster is an Ayrshire bull calf so although he won’t be giving us any milk there are many great qualities that set Ayrshire milk apart from the rest. Ayrshire milk is known for its unique taste and smooth texture with a slightly higher butterfat and protein content than other milk, often being called "the ideal drinking milk". With a good balance of component levels it produces healthier milk proteins that are easier to digest than other breeds.

Hey friends- just wanted to share this. Farmers sometimes make mistakes. We are no exception to that, with two small kids and super busy schedules things happen. Last night Roman was playing with the hose and must have sprayed the electrical socket Ghostys fence was plugged into, tripping the breaker.
I am incredibly thankful for Ryan (a neighbor a few streets away) for calling Linda at 6:30 am and for her calling me where I was able to get in touch with moe who was still home ( I was in Boston already) as well as our amazing town for posting online. This was approved on the town page hours later and Ghosty had been home for the day but I was able to explain our story in the comments and thank everyone for their concern.
Our town is no stranger to loose cows, horses, goats and pigs (remember the shirts from 2022 farm day?!) anyways all this to say thank you to everyone who reached out. Ghosty just wanted to say hey!
