These are some of our Common Evening Primrose volunteers. These guys are short, but they can reach 6 ft tall. They are native and have been used for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. I love the way their color pops in the dusk and attracts the night-time pollinators! They are typically a biennial, meaning they don’t bloom until the second year; but they can sometimes bloom the first year if conditions are right. They also readily reseed themselves and the seeds can last for years in the soil. I really enjoy these volunteers in my flower gardens and will often even leave room for them in the veggie garden when they come up. Do you allow certain volunteers a place or do you w**d them all out?
