This is Da Goat (named by our son). A few months ago, he was on death's doorstep. Another case of meningeal worm that left him coiled up under a blackberry patch in the middle of his paddock.

Unable to stand, barely able to lift his head, the outlook was definitely grim. I began treatment immediately. As they often do, it took 4 days of worry and anxiety to see any substantial improvement (standing). It took many trips per day to his stall for drenching water to keep him hydrated, nutritional supplements, and his medicine until he began to eat and drink on his own.

When the dewormer was completed, another week of anti-inflammatory meds was administered until finally his "new normal" was achieved. He has recovered, in my estimation, 85% of his function. Yes, he stumbles a bit, runs with a head tilt, and tends to "faint" more than he used to, but he is enjoying a high quality of life that just a few months ago was very uncertain.

I share this story because as I sit here this morning waiting for all the goats to finish their breakfast, I am left thinking about all the times I have thought about giving up, quitting, moving on to something else. Sometimes life seems too damn hard or at least harder than it should be. As silly as it sounds, remembering the effort put forth by both the goat and myself to save his life is both empowering and inspiring, at least for me.
