Thank you so much for your interest in the CSA Program with our farm, The Purple Ostrich. Our intent, is to provide you and your family with fresh, healthy, chemical-free (no pesticides, no herbicides etc) produce. When I shop for fruits and vegetables, my first choice is to have non-GMO, chemical-free items. I wanted to be able to provide for my partners the same quality that I would like to have
on my own dinner table, so, all the seeds we purchased are heirloom variety. Secondly, I want to create a sense of community... of helpfulness here. Remembering back to days when friends and family helped each other, and took time to sit and visit, and care about one another is a pleasant set of memories. Many of life's opportunities come from those moments. When we just take a few minutes of our day to talk with someone that we may have otherwise never come across, we are changed!! So, I encourage you to set a little time aside, to come sit and visit, perhaps, help fill up other partners packages, or meet up with a friend here and sit in the shade and catch up. Take the time to slow down, step out of pace with the hustle and bustle of everyday living, and just breathe in the fresh air and enjoy!! The very nature of a CSA garden is sharing. Sharing in both the bounty of the fresh produce AND in the risks of nature as it applies to farming! Surely, no one wants to imagine the worst of events happening here. I always expect the best! That being said, do keep it in mind as you decide about becoming a CSA Partner. Our plan is to have produce ready by the second week of May, and continue packages until mid to late September. (approximately 20 weeks). At which time, we will have an "End Harvest" Party, to divide up the remains of the field amongst the partners that show up for the event! (we will finish picking all produce, pull the plants and ready the field for winter!)
When you are ready to come on board as a CSA Partner, please read and fill out an application, and mail (snail-mail) it back to us with your payment included.( Make checks or money-orders out to "The Purple Ostrich") Do remember, that the items listed as part of the packages will rotate in and out as they become ready for harvest, so, the items mentioned are for example purposes, to show you the amount of produce (or the equivalent) that will be included per package. When the strawberries are done producing, the apples should be coming on, so we will then rotate apples into the packages, and after the apples, come the watermelon! The same cycle will apply to green beans, spaghetti squash, eggplants, radishes etc. A "Single" package will include: a head of lettuce, 3 tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, 2 zucchini, 2 squash, 1 qt of strawberries and perhaps an onion. This package sells for $300. You are the best judge as to how much your family will easily consume in a week. So, you can sign up for as many packages (slots) as you think will be needed to keep you full and healthy on a weekly basis!! Again, Thank you for your interest in our CSA Program.
