Been a while since the last planting update but here’s the last pass of soybeans to go in the ground on Monday.

Got a good start over the weekend and planted soybeans into an established stand of Camelina as a relay crop. The Camelina will be harvested in June and the soybeans will continue on to fall for normal harvest.

For those not aware, Camelina is an oil seed that is being grown for fuel. We’re partnered with Cargill and CentraSota to try and add value to lower productivity soil and we get the added benefit of a winter cover on top of everything!

Did a little field scouting today on our latest test project. Winter camelina is typically a cover crop but we’re part of a pilot project to grow it for the oilseed for fuel.

The plan here is to plant soybeans into this in a few weeks and relay them together until June when the camelina gets harvested. It’s been interesting to try this out to see where it goes. More questions than answers at this point but you don’t learn unless you’re trying! 🙂

Proud to be recognized for the work we do to take care of our land and water.

Getting the certification means much more than just the acknowledgement - The motivation is two fold, 1) To help share the story of how we can be better stewards of our resources with other producers and 2) To help inform the public about what actually happens across our farms and how we care for the land and water. In the end, keeping the communication going helps us all find solutions we didn't think possible!

Getting some nitrogen on before the rain

Down to the last 65 acres of beans. Looks like rain over my shoulder. Keeping the hammer down and we’re done!
