Moved the pigs into their next paddock yesterday. They’re doing double duty right now. I’m running them through an area that has compacted soils and difficult weeds like burdock. They’re doing some light tillage and eating the burdock. Once they’re moved out, I’ll seed cover crops like tillage radish, oats and peas to help turn the area into a garden space for next year.

I’ve been taking solace the last few days by spending extra time with the turkeys and pigs on pasture. It’s always enjoyable watching them live their best lives. The goal is for them to only have one bad day.

Speaking of turkeys, you can now reserve your Thanksgiving turkey on our website. The turkeys will be processed on farm and will be available for pickup the Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Link in bio.

Our piggies have arrived! They’re a rambunctious bunch. Once they’re trained to the electric fence, they’ll be put on pasture where they can revel in their natural instincts - rooting around, wallowing and eating surrounding vegetation, fallen nuts and so on.

On a separate note, this Sunday is your last chance for FRESH chicken this season! Pre-order yours using the link in our bio.

Our chickens are raised in these “chicken tractors.” We move them twice a day so the chickens always have access to fresh grubs and grass. The coops also tend to attract local wildlife including deer, wild turkeys, and ravens. We have a new friend who started visiting recently. Can anyone spot what I believe to be a grouse hanging out near the back of the chicken tractor?
