I lost her in storage and didn’t have her last year. I missed her buttery papaya color.

💗 AC Twisp
Her twisty sherbert petals of apricot and rose are a favorite. And the little picotee edge? Be still my heart!

💗 Idlewild Miss Lavendar
One of my favorite new releases. I’m a sucker for lavender and she has a lovely muted tone. Named after the lovely Miss Lavendar Lewis from Anne of Avonlea.

💗 River’s Can’t Elope
She blooms so much, it’s just a delight to see her in the garden. I love her perfect apricot melon color.

💗 Oreti Duke
You know poms have my whole heart. The petals tuck so tightly it hardly looks real. My new favorite last year.

Making cuts is always hard but I try to think about it as making room for the ones we love!

Comment and tell me if you had to cut any favorites (or least favorites) this year.

Bloomquist Tory P… why? 👇
She is a horrible tuber maker. Tubers are sparse, thin and don’t store well. I never ended the year with more than one salable tuber per clump. Plus her center isn’t great.

Hollyhill Pink Pearl… why?👇
This one hurt. I adored it but every plant showed signs of viral infection of TSWV so I had to pull them. I’m hoping to get it back from another source.

Raspberry Punch… why?👇
The color is not super in demand. I do personally love a hot watermelon pink but it wasn’t a top seller so I let her go this year.

Bloomquist Sterling… why? 👇
I accidentally oversold my stock and didn’t have any left to plant but by the time I realized I couldn’t find any to buy. I’m hoping to grow again next year because this is a nice container dahlia… not too tall.

Caitlin’s Joy… why? 👇
This one got planted late last year in a very shady spot and they grew but never bloomed. I think the soil was too bogged down. When I dug the clumps they were rotted out. She is pretty common so it’s not a profitable plant for tuber production.

What would you name her?

This seedling is a perfect raspberry, rusty miniature ball with great vase life. Trust me when I say she is WAY way prettier than Ferncliff Rusty.

She got held back another year because she grew at ball size rather than mini ball size in 2025. I didn’t know if it was a fluke. So this year she’s getting trialed at a few flower farmer friends gardens across the country.

But she needs a name! What do you think?

Can’t wait to see this seedling again…
This is a class of 2025 dahlia seedling. It is a Novelty form reminiscent of Valley Porcupine (which we actually don’t grow). At first glance you might think it’s a Cactus form but it’s not because the petals are fully involute rather than revolute.
I think the color is a nice medium orchid pink/lavender. You’ll notice a little bit of pinstriping or streaking toward the petal hearts.
The seed it germinated from came out of our stellar isolation patch. We also keep novelty fully doubles and what some would call double orchids in these beds, along with a handful of informal decs and waterlilies.

This is depressing…
Featured here are 2025 seedlings that did not make it through storage and are now lost forever. 😭

How it happened:
⚫️ In the fall we mark and dig our seedlings that we want to keep and observe another year.
⚫️ We cut the stalks short, leave the dirt on and put them in crates.
⚫️ Typically those crates would go in a temp/humidity controlled environment but this year we ran out of space and they got put in a less than ideal storage location.
⚫️ We lost a lot of clumps to dehydration. 😟 They just shriveled too much to be viable.

🪦 So RIP to these gorgeous varieties that had their year in the sun and will be seen no more…

Our 2026 introduction is named after Dora Keith from Anne of Avonlea. When Marilla adopts 6 year old twins Davy and Dora, she is described as being very prim, proper and sweet... “an industrious little soul and never happier than when helping in various small tasks.” You’ll love this soft blush, formal decorative that grows about 5.5 feet tall with 5” blooms. She makes lots of blousy flowers on strong stems.

Introducing Idlewild Thistle Tuft…
Our exclusive 2026 introduction is a charming 3” lavender, mini ball with tidy, tightly arranged petals, that create a quilted texture.
