When it’s this hot outside, you learn real quick to work smarter and not harder.

Thankful for my Jeep wagon today, I used it to bring several loads of feed out to the barn.🤣

How are you beating the heat today? 🥵

How hot is it out?

It’s reapply deodorant every 20 minutes hot. 🥴

I LOVE that this pasture isn’t just flat wide open grass, being able to hang out and graze in the shade is so beneficial to these cows!

Oh Valentine… are you going to give us a calf this year? 🤞❤️

We’re nearing the end of calving season, and we still have four cows that may - or may not - have calves on the way. Valentine is one of them.

We didn’t do pregnancy checks this year, and Major was running with a fairly large group of cows for a short period of time. There’s a very real possibility that we’re already done calving for the year, but I’m still holding out hope for a few more babies.

Last year, Valentine had a breech calf - a beautiful little dun heifer. Unfortunately, she never developed a suckle reflex. We tried everything we could, including tube feeding her, but during one of my middle of the night checks, she had already passed.

That’s one of the hard realities of farming. We celebrate the successes, but there are losses too.

That calf was Valentine’s first, and ever since then I’ve been looking forward to the day I get to watch her raise one successfully. I have a feeling she’ll make an incredible mom.

So what do you think - does Valentine have a secret baby hiding in there, or is she just keeping us guessing until next year?

There’s nothing quite like watching a good momma cow with her baby. ❤️

In this video, Brandy is on the left loving on her calf, Briar, while Robin is on the right giving Rosie a good cleaning. These girls make motherhood look easy, and we couldn’t ask for better mommas for our calves.

Both Briar and Rosie are available and looking for their future homes. If you’re interested in either calf, send me a message and I’d be happy to chat with you about them!

A quick note: you may notice a roll of barbed wire in the pasture. It was accidentally left behind when we replaced our old barbed wire fencing with high-tensile fence. As soon as I noticed it after taking this video, I removed it immediately so no cows or calves could get hurt.

Now back to the stars of the show - Brandy, Robin, Briar, and Rosie. 🐮💕

I’m loading one last hatch in my incubator and then I will be shutting it down after that -

If anyone is interested in really good quality silkie hens let me know. I had them shipped as hatching eggs from out of state from breeders who have very good stock and then only kept the best of the best out of what hatched.

12 silkie hens
1 silkie rooster (I have 2 other back up silkie roosters available also)

Ignore how crappy a couple of the hens look, they’re my roosters favorite because a ton of them went broody - they will look a lot nicer I promise.

‼️ also ignore the American bresse pullet, she was getting picked on in the other coop so I put her with the silkies temporarily 😂
