Real vanilla beans grown at home! 🌱
If you’re like me and use real vanilla extract, vanilla paste/powder or even gift homemade vanilla extract often, then you might want to consider this plant, the vanilla orchid (Vanilla planifolia).
This is the same plant they use to make real vanilla beans commercially.
Vanilla beans come from an orchid, and the plant grows as a climbing vine.
It is a perennial evergreen vine, and you only need ONE vanilla orchid to produce beans! They are very-pot friendly!
There is a slight catch! Once it starts flowering, I’ll have to hand-pollinate the flowers to get vanilla beans. Each flower can be pollinated using its own pollen.
