Founded in 1883 in Livermore Valley, Wente Family Vineyards is the oldest continuously family-owned and operated winery in the United States. Today, the fifth generation carries forward a remarkable tradition of innovation, sustainability, and exceptional California winemaking.

Wente’s influence on California Chardonnay is especially extraordinary. In 1912, Ernest Wente brought Chardonnay cuttings from France to Livermore Valley and helped develop what became known as the Wente Clone. Today, Wente says more than 75% of California Chardonnay traces its heritage to the Wente Clone.
