The martini has been a point of debate since the early 1900s. It began as a gin drink, built on vermouth and bitters, and the vodka version didn’t take hold until the middle of the century, when Bond made “shaken, not stirred” a way of life. Gin brings botanicals and a little bite. Vodka keeps things clean and silky. Both do exactly what you’d hope.
Ordering one is half the fun. Dry means less vermouth, extra dry means barely any, and wet means more. Dirty adds a splash of olive brine, and a twist brings lemon oil and brightness. A Gibson swaps the olive for a cocktail onion. But if you're making it at your home bar, no worries how you order! Only what ingredients you use... a bottle of each, dry vermouth (keep it in the fridge once it’s open), olives or onions, a few lemons, a shaker or mixing glass, and a good strainer.
Luckily, we have it all. Stop by Boot Liquors and we’ll help you stock the bar.
