We took a break from markets yesterday, however it is seldom ever a true break. So far our break this weekend has been used to integrate 3 new ladies into the herd, loads of salsa, elderberry syrup, fixing a lawnmower, fire c***r and numerous other chores we've gotten behind on the past couple weeks with back to school/work.

A little behind-the-scenes look at our market ❤️

We had just two vendors at the market today, and we’ve heard some recent comments about the number of vendors we typically have each Saturday (usually 3–5). We completely understand that more vendors make for a bigger, more exciting market, and growing our vendor base is something we’re actively working on.

But we also want to share a little of the *why* behind the smaller turnout—because there’s a lot that goes on behind the tables that you may not see.

🌱 **It has been a really challenging growing season.** We started the year with a late hard freeze, followed by drought conditions through much of the summer, and then several weeks of extreme heat. All of that affects plant growth, blooms, yields, and what farmers have available to bring to market.

🚜 **Farmers are busy.** Many of the farmers we’ve reached out to simply don’t have the time or capacity to harvest, prepare, load up, and spend every Saturday at a market. For many, Saturday is also the day they finally have time to catch up on everything that needs to be done around their own property.

💛 **Sometimes people just need a break.** Our vendors wear a LOT of hats. They’re parents, people working full-time jobs, students, farmers, homesteaders, business owners, and vendors at other markets. Showing up every single weekend just isn’t always possible.

☀️ **And the growing season is winding down.** Many of our vendors don’t have greenhouses, which means they’re working with the weather, temperatures, pests, and the natural growing season in our area. As we move toward fall, some of the produce that filled tables earlier in the season is simply coming to an end.

And then there’s one more thing we think is important to remember…

**This is our first year.** ❤️

We’re a small market with no budget, and we’re still building. We’re learning, figuring things out, reaching out to vendors, making improvements, and working to create something that can continue to grow right here in our community.

And honestly, the support we’ve received from this community has meant more than we can say.

🩵Even though our market is smaller than many others, the people who DO come out continue to show up with such incredible encouragement and support week after week.🩵 You stop, you shop, you chat with our vendors, you share our posts, you tell your friends, and you keep coming back.

If it weren’t for that support, we very well could have fizzled out by now.

Instead, we’re already looking ahead and excited about what next year can bring. We have ideas for improvements, we’re continuing to recruit agricultural vendors, and we’re committed to building this market one step at a time.

So thank you—for your patience, your encouragement, your feedback, and most of all, for sticking with us. ❤️

And we’re excited to welcome some new vendors next week! 🎉 Stay tuned for more details, and as always, thank you for helping us grow. 🌱

We're super busy this time of year with taking care of the garden and preserving our harvests for the rest of the year so a quick, easy to throw together pasta like the below is great. Just cherry tomatoes cooked in olive oil, garlic and white w**e. Tossed with lots of fresh basil, then topped with our home raised chicken, homemade herb salt and cheese.

Would anyone be interested in a meal kit, with a recipe card, to pickup at our next farm market? We would provide all but the pasta, cheese, olive oil and w**e.
