Currently working on the double stable doors in the 1800s bank barn. None of the bottom doors were in place, but I have found 5 out of 6 of them scattered around. Only one of the original strap hinges is in place, and the rest are nowhere to be found.

Working on adjusting the fit of each door, attaching reproduction strap hinges, and building one new door from salvaged materials to replace the missing one.

The saga of the native meadow:

4. Today

Seeded this meadow in January before the big snow storm. Lots of seedlings spouted early spring, but drought and groundhogs have really put it to the test this spring and summer. Added some compost and a groundhog deterrent (tube man on an interval timer) at the end of July. Now, only a couple weeks later she’s starting to show off! Native coreopsis, black eyed susans, spotted bee balm, and some blanket flower are starting to bloom with more coming every day. I topped off the bare spots with some zinnias and hopefully we will have color all through fall. 💛

Our very first year of SOL Summer Camps at Sunshine Springs Farm was a huge success! Meredith has an amazing way of connecting with the kids and noticing what lights them up. From there, she lets their curiosity lead the way, guiding inquiry-based exploration throughout the week. We can’t wait to see where their curiosity takes us next summer! 💛🌞💛

Summer camp starts Monday and our “Soft Launch” of programming is coming this fall!!

Our dad bought this abandoned farm in 1983 and worked tirelessly on restoring the house. Over the past year, we have worked primarily on the barn and the land, and are excited to share our childhood home with you soon!
