So that we can dispel and dismiss all the rumors regarding why we are closing we are making the following statement:
First our backstory. During Idalia our home was flooded. It took us until the end of July 2024 to make all repairs and get our lives back to normal. Helene said “Hold my beer” and completely destroyed our home. We regrouped and cleaned up and sold our property to move further from the water and on higher ground. During these two events we received tremendous support from the community. Since buying our property in 2018, Tim had frequently mentioned that this town need a produce market. After our storm recovery Tim asked what I thought about opening a produce & meat market since we did not have options for quality products. I said it would be great for the community and Pirate’s Bounty was born. After outgrowing our original location, the England’s were gracious to allow us to lease their facility.
We were offered the opportunity to purchase the property owned by the England’s. We declined as we are both older and Tim is actually retired and I still work a full time job. We did not wish to finance a property at our ages.
Us declining to purchase the property then allowed to England’s to put it up for sale which was their right per our lease agreement. The property was placed under contract very quickly.
In speaking with the potential new owners, we were notified that they were willing to extend our lease for 6-12 months.
Tim and I spoke about our options as there was now a definite date we would have to move or close the store. As we all know, the real estate landscape in Steinhatchee for a small retail location is not something that is readily available without substantial remodeling. We did simple remodeling at our current location and that took a lot out of us. We are not up for major renovations and moving again.
We are not blaming anyone for us closing nor should our community. The decision was solely ours and ours alone.
We have enjoyed our time through this journey. We have met so many wonderful people and we have been honored to serve our community in this manner. We love all our customers and consider them like family. Please have a wonderful and blessed day.
