Cleaning out the nursery…

Bucklings: “Hey mom, wait! We need to p*e on the old sheets before you finish cleaning.”

Me: “Wow, thanks boys. That’s very thoughtful of you.”

[Waits for them to finish p*eing. Strips bedding. Puts down fresh shavings.]

Bucklings: “Actually… we need to p*e again.”

🤦‍♀️ I swear baby goats produce more fluid than they actually consume. 🤦‍♀️

This weekend we attended the NCDGBA Memorial Day Show. This was our 5th year attending, and we truly love this show so much. It’s such a wonderful, supportive group of people, and the show is always very well run.

The highlight of the weekend was Zenquility Acres Hot Butter going Grand Champion and Best of Breed under judge Erica Noble. This is our first milker to ever go Grand, and since she earned her dry leg last year, she’s also our first doe to earn 2 legs!

Our kidding season completed this morning with an easy one from Cali. She kidded triplets in under 5 minutes.

This has been an incredibly stressful week. She was due Tuesday and I had to leave for California on Monday for work leaving Dan with a lot of responsibility, including Kimchi who was struggling to recover from a rough birth and 3 newborns. Luckily, Cali kept her legs crossed until I returned.

I absolutely could not do this without Dan. He was a rockstar at taking care of everyone while I was away.

Final kid count:
8 doelings 🩷
12 bucklings 💙

Kimchi gave us triplets today, 2 bucks and 1 doe, in what was probably the second hardest kidding we’ve ever been through.

My day started at 3am watching the camera, knowing labor was close. After a while I could tell something wasn’t right, and when I checked I found a butt trying to come out. I was able to find the back legs and get the first buckling delivered safely. Kimchi spent a long time cleaning him before trying for the second.

The second wasn’t coming either, and after feeling what seemed like way too many legs, I finally got the second buckling repositioned and delivered. That’s when Dan pointed out there was still another leg hanging out, and I realized why I had felt so many legs in there… two kids had been trying to come at the same time. The last kid was in a terrible position, with one front leg and one back leg presenting, and Kimchi was completely exhausted by that point.

After trying everything I could with guidance from NC State, we made the call to head to the vet school. They worked for quite a while to get the last kid out (without c-section), and to everyone’s surprise a LIVE little doeling finally arrived. The staff nicknamed her “Miracle.”

Kimchi gave us quite a scare afterward and went into a bizarre hyper-excitable state, but after sedation and morphine, we decided she may be more relaxed at home. Once back home, she settled down and is doing well considering everything she went through.

We’re incredibly thankful to be so close to the vet school today ❤️

Kimchi is due tomorrow, but decided to get a jump on stressing me out with a convincing death nap

UPDATE: No longer available

REDUCED...This girl is still available. I would love to find her a new herd by the end of this weekend before the next round of kidding so I've decided to reduce her to 4️⃣0️⃣0️⃣. She's a super friendly bottle baby. Located in Stem, NC.

Poor Cali is so over this pregnancy. She's a whale 🐋 We only have 2 more kiddings left this year, and she’s the last one due in 6 days!

Send her some good vibes that she goes 1 to 2 days early, because otherwise Dan will be delivering these babies solo 😬

Wasabi had a big day at the vet school today getting evaluated for a handful of ongoing issues. She’s been dealing with a shoulder injury for several months, so they did a full workup, including x-rays, flexion tests, and even a second opinion from an equine vet.

As you can see from the photo, the flexion tests were not her favorite part 🤣

She’s been on stall rest for 5 weeks with Meloxicam, and the stress, along with some bad new habits, has unfortunately led to other issues, including mastitis (Bacillus cereus... major freakout, but luckily caught quickly 😰). It’s been a tough stretch for her.

Wasabi is truly one of my favorites in the herd. She freshened with the best udder I’ve produced so far, and her sweet personality had everyone at the vet school wrapped around her hoof in no time.

We have a new treatment plan moving forward, including more stall rest. I’m trying to stay realistic. It’s unlikely she’ll make it back to the show ring, but she’ll always have a place here as long as we can keep her comfortable and happy ❤️
