We live in western NC and I keep seeing these numbers shared around. I agree with the sentiment, but it is not completely accurate. Reports state that 120,000 homes were “destroyed OR damaged,” but those making these memes chose to remove the word “damaged” in order to stir things up and get shares. 120,000 homes would be over 300,000 people completely without homes and that’s simply not true! We don’t need to exaggerate the devastation here or downplay other disasters that people are experiencing to get our point across. Please research before you share things on social media.
