This cold snap gave us a great opportunity to test our greenhouse.
Inside, temperatures should stay more stable as delicate seedlings get a head start.
However, 25 F proved to be too cold for our tomato plants even with an extra closed container. Out of 3 plants only 1 survived.

There is a ‘prize’ for this winner - every seed of this plant will be collected and saved to start a line of frost resistant heirloom tomatoes.

An unexpected frost can feel like a setback, but nature has a quiet resilience. Beneath the surface, roots remain strong, waiting for the warmth to return.
Growth isn’t always a straight path. There are pauses, surprises, and moments that test what’s just beginning to flourish.
Here’s to patience, protection, and trusting that brighter, warmer days are still ahead 🌷

There’s something special about growing organic heirloom tomatoes 🌱🍅
From tiny seeds to vibrant, imperfectly perfect fruits, every step feels like a quiet kind of magic. Each variety bursting with flavor you just can’t find anywhere else.

It’s not always easy. Lots of patience. Lots of care and nurturing. Lots of hope for a new season.

Here are our baby tomatoes, tucked away from the still cold greenhouse, warming up under cozy grow lights.

It was just a few weeks ago that the last patches of snow melted away.
Goodbye, winter. You stayed long enough.
And now - look at these beauties!
Yes, they were snugly tucked away in the greenhouse for the cold winter months.
Yes, the field tulips are still a month away.
And yet, it is a first glimpse at the coming season of color and beauty in the garden.

The first frost of October 2025 was about to hit us here in Stephentown. I had to say goodbye to our last, but still so vibrant and beautiful dahlias.
