Almost SIX years in Stephenville. 🤍
As we come up on SIX YEARS of being open here in Stephenville, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting.
And what a wild ride it has been.
There have been seasons where this little store has absolutely thrived, seasons that have been scary, and plenty of moments somewhere in between. But I guess that’s the adventure you sign up for when you decide to build a business from the ground up.
First and foremost, I am incredibly grateful.
I’m grateful for every person who has walked through these doors, every tea and shake you’ve purchased, every friend you’ve brought in, every post you’ve shared, and every single time you’ve chosen to spend your money with my small business.
Almost six years is something I’m really, really proud of. ❤️
And there’s a piece of this story that many of you may not know.
When I decided to open this store, I didn’t have a pile of money sitting around waiting to fund a business.
I sold the house I had bought when I was only 22 years old.
I took the little bit of profit I had from that house, moved to Stephenville, and poured it into this place because I believed in it that much.
I believed in the products. I believed in what I was capable of building. And more than anything, I believed God had put something on my heart that was worth taking a terrifying leap of faith for.
I remember telling God, “If You make this happen—if You make this dream a reality—I will be a vessel for You, and I will use this store as a ministry.”
And He did.
Almost six years later, these doors are still open.
But six years in business has also taught me that sometimes loving what you do isn’t enough. You also have to be willing to make decisions that allow what you love to remain healthy and sustainable.
Over these six years, the cost of the products I purchase has increased again and again, just like virtually everything else around us has gotten more expensive.
And through almost all of it…
I’ve been scared to raise my own prices.
So I just…didn’t.
If you know me, you know how much I genuinely love and believe in the products we use. And I have never wanted increasing costs to make them inaccessible to the people who have supported me all these years.
But at some point, I have to acknowledge that refusing to adjust my prices while everything I purchase continues to increase isn’t generosity.
It’s poor business practice on my part.
For perspective, I have charged $8 for our regular meal-replacement shakes for SIX YEARS.
Our shakes contain the FULL serving—two scoops of meal replacement and two scoops of protein.
There are stores selling the same type of products that use half of that product and charge $12–$14. Full-serving shakes like ours can easily run $16–$20 in other markets.
Our teas currently range from roughly $9–$12, while similar drinks in larger markets can run considerably higher.
Meanwhile, we’re buying the same products from the same company.
I don’t say any of that because I suddenly want to charge $20 for a shake. 😂 I DON’T. And I’m not going to.
I say it because I’ve finally had to accept that keeping my prices artificially low while my cost of doing business continues to rise simply isn’t sustainable.
But there’s another part of this that is even more important to me.
I’m tired.
For nearly six years, I have poured an enormous amount of myself into this place.
And somewhere along the way, I became so consumed with keeping the business running that I lost some of the space I once had to actually pour into the people inside of it.
And that’s probably the hardest part for me to admit.
Because I don’t want to simply keep a store open.
I want to get back to the reason I opened it.
I want to have the energy to sit with someone who needs encouragement.
I want to pour into people again.
I want to be creative again.
I want to love being here instead of constantly worrying about whether I’ve sold enough that day to cover the next bill.
I want to walk through these doors and remember the girl who sold her house, moved to a new town, bet everything she had on a dream, and trusted God with what happened next.
I also want to be able to step away sometimes.
I need time with my kids. I need room to breathe. I need the ability to have someone here a couple of days a week so that everything doesn’t depend on me being behind this counter every single day.
Because I want this store to THRIVE—not just barely survive.
And in order to pay rent, utilities, product costs, an employee, and all of the other expenses that come with keeping these doors open, the business has to actually make a profit.
That isn’t greed.
That’s how a business stays open.
And maybe making this business financially healthier isn’t stepping away from the promise I made God almost six years ago.
Maybe it’s part of finding my way back to it.
Because if giving this business a little breathing room allows me to have a little breathing room too—to be more present with my children, to pour into my community, to serve people, to create again, and to use this place the way I promised God I would—then I think this change is long overdue.
So, with all of that being said, there will be a small price adjustment coming to our menu.
Nothing crazy. Nothing drastic. I’m not suddenly charging Metroplex prices. 😂
Just an adjustment that better reflects what our products actually cost today and gives this little business some much-needed breathing room.
I’ve put this off for a very long time because I’ve genuinely been afraid that raising prices would mean losing the people who support me.
But I can’t control what it costs me to purchase the products I sell, and I can’t continue absorbing every increase myself out of fear.
What I can do is continue giving you the same quality, the same FULL servings, the same products I genuinely believe in, and the same little store that has been serving Stephenville for almost six years.
I don’t need this store to make me rich.
I need it to be sustainable enough that I can stop spending all of myself just trying to keep it alive and start using it for what I believe it was given to me for. 🤍
The updated prices will be posted on the door, and I truly hope you understand.
More than anything, I hope you’ll continue supporting this little business that means so much to me.
To every single person who has helped keep these doors open for almost six years—thank you.
Thank you for buying the tea.
Thank you for grabbing the shake.
Thank you for bringing your friend.
Thank you for sharing the post.
Thank you for choosing a tiny, locally owned business when you had a hundred other places you could have spent your money.
Thank you for allowing me to grow, adjust, breathe a little, and continue doing something I genuinely love.
I took a leap of faith almost six years ago and trusted God with what happened next.
He got me this far. I’m going to trust Him with what comes next, too. 🤍
Here’s to Year 6—and, God willing, many, many more. 🥂
