🪻Farm Product Spotlight: Goat Copper Bolus! 🐐

Since I keep my sheep and goats together, my goats need a little extra support to make sure they’re getting the minerals they need. One of my go-to products is the UltraCruz Goat Copper Bolus.

Copper is an essential trace mineral that helps support:
🐐 Healthy coats and hair growth
🌱 Proper growth and development
💪🏼 Prevention of copper deficiency

One thing I really like is that these boluses provide slow-release copper, are made in the USA, and come in both adult and kid sizes, so it’s easy to dose everyone appropriately.

And don’t worry if you’ve never given a copper bolus before… here’s my favorite trick: just open the capsule and hide the copper rods inside a Fig Newton! My goats think they’re getting a special treat and usually gobble it right up.

Here in Alaska, many areas are naturally low in copper, so this is an important part of my herd’s mineral program. That said, every farm is different! I always recommend getting a soil test done on your pasture so you know exactly what minerals your animals may be missing.

As always, this is a product I personally use on my farm. If you’re interested, I’ve linked both the adult and kid sizes in the comments. 🪻🐐 A very special welcome to the newest member of the herd! 🐐🪻

Tonight, our little farm grew by four tiny hooves and one precious baby goat. 💜

There’s something so magical about welcoming new life into the world. Watching a wobbly-legged kid take those first steps never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve seen it. And it truly is what makes Alaska winters with animals worth it, it helps prove the work paid off.

Mama and baby are doing great, and we couldn’t be more excited for the happy healthy duo!

Welcome to the herd, little one! 🐐

Farm Product Spotlight: Tank Heater 🚰

It may only be June, but winter is right around the corner and it’s always a good idea to keep a couple stock tank heaters around, especially when we hit those negative temps. It’s very important for animals to always have water in the winter to keep hydrated and rumens healthy!

With that being said, these heaters have done really well for us! Lasting up to 5 years in our harsh Alaskan winters so if you’re looking for a good heater, this is the one for you! In the stock tank picture it was 47 below, and water is still easily accessible.

🌾🐑 Farm Product Spotlight: Sheep Minerals! 🐑🌾
Featuring: Ekin the sheep, named after one of my favorite goats Nike.

Yesterday was goat minerals and today is sheep!
Just like people, sheep need vitamins and minerals to thrive. A good sheep-specific mineral helps support:
✨ Healthy growth
✨ Strong immune systems
✨ Proper reproduction
✨ Healthy hooves and wool
✨ Overall flock health

One important thing to remember is that sheep have different mineral needs than goats and cattle—especially when it comes to copper. That’s why it’s important to provide a mineral formulated specifically for sheep. However, in Alaska we are deficient in certain minerals in the soil, so at our place we actually make a 50/50 mix with the sheep & goat minerals.

Our sheep & goats always have access to free-choice minerals, allowing them to take what they need when they need it. It’s one of those simple management practices that can make a big difference in the long run!

🐑 Healthy sheep start from the inside out!

Check out today’s featured sheep mineral in the pinned post if you’re looking for an option for your own flock. 🌾🧡
