Dear Logan County Farmers Market Community, we have received several inquiries regarding the current status of the Colorado Cottage Foods Act training programs. After following up directly with both the state health department and Colorado State University (CSU), we would like to provide the following clarifications: Training Programs on Hold: It is confirmed that the standard CSU cottage food safety training programs are temporarily paused until August 2026.Legislative Updates (The "Tamale Act"): This pause is largely due to current legislative developments. HB26-1033, also known as the "Tamale Act," is moving through the Colorado General Assembly. If passed and signed by the Governor, this bill will significantly expand the act to include temperature-controlled and meat-based foods (like tamales and burritos).Existing Certificates: For those whose current food safety certificates have recently expired or are about to expire, the state agency has indicated that you will remain covered under your existing credentials until the updated training reflecting the new laws is made available. We encourage all current and prospective vendors to keep an eye on official updates from CSU Extension and the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) as the August date approaches. Thank you for your patience as these exciting new changes to Colorado’s food freedom laws take shape. We look forward to seeing everyone at the market!

Sincerely Marv Ferdig Director, Logan County Farmers Market
