Mmmmm Reality Czech! Double decocted Czech style pilsner with undermodified pils malt from the Czech Republic. Sprinkle in hand selected Czech saaz and a week of lagering per degree Plato and this 4.4% beaut is fantastic! Na zdravi to Sundays!

Just the first of several runs at making Obatzda - authentic Bavarian cheese spread for Oktoberfest at District 1 Brewing on September 19th.

Had to substitute Brie cheese as I could not find Camembert. Not bad but really need to give the Camembert a go.

Anyone out there know where I could get some?

Rest assured. Dr. Mike is about 4 hours deep preparing for our September 19th Oktoberfest.

Egyptians, Greek physicians, German medical students, an English physician who, for some reason, tasted urine and found it to be sweet, a Canadian physician, a biochemist, a medical student, and a 14-year-old boy named Leonard Thompson. And, oh yes, a Nobel prize. 

BTW, the yellow liquid in the glass is a German beer and NOT urine.

So what do these 3 guys have to do with our Oktoberfest celebration on 9/19?All will be making an “appearance” of sorts....

So what do these 3 guys have to do with our Oktoberfest celebration on 9/19?

All will be making an “appearance” of sorts.

Dr. Mike will be your M.C.

Gottlieb Guentzel (1825-1899) is Dr. Mike’s 3rd great grandfather who immigrated from Saxony Germany to the Milwaukee area in 1857 and farmed in Oak Creek for 10 years before moving to Minnesota.

Paul Langerhans (1847-1888) was a medical student in Berlin when he described clusters of cells within the pancreas in 1869 (later named the Islets of Langerhans in 1893, these are the insulin producing cells of the pancreas).

How are we going to blend these stories in amongst beer tastings, bratwurst, Ein Prosits and Sweet Carolines?

And, we hear that Dr. Mike has a pair of Lederhosen to match his hat. Though perhaps that may keep people away…
