Sunset in Lodi last night!!

Interesting!!

Interesting!!

Lilies are in every garden. Every bouquet. Every farmer's market arrangement.

They're the #1 plant killer of cats.

All parts of true lilies (Lilium species) and daylilies (Hemerocallis) are toxic to cats. Petals. Leaves. Stems. Pollen. Even the water in the vase.

But here's the part that kills: POLLEN.

A cat brushes against a lily. Pollen dusts its fur. The cat grooms itself. Ingests the pollen.

Within 6-12 hours: vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite.
Within 24-72 hours: acute kidney failure.
Without aggressive IV treatment within 18 hours: death.

A TINY amount. Less than a petal. A few grains of pollen. That's the lethal dose.

There's no antidote. Treatment is aggressive fluid therapy to flush the kidneys before permanent damage. Even with treatment, many cats suffer lasting kidney damage.

This isn't obscure. The ASPCA Poison Control Center lists lily toxicity as one of their top calls every spring and summer.

What to do:
If you have cats (indoor OR outdoor) — do NOT plant lilies in your garden.
No lilies in bouquets or vases in a home with cats.
If your cat contacts any lily — wash the pollen off immediately, call your vet or ASPCA Poison Control (888-426-4435), and get to an emergency vet FAST. Time is the only variable.
Safe alternatives that look similar: snapdragons, zinnias, petunias, sunflowers, orchids, roses.

The most popular flower in American gardens is the most lethal to the most popular pet in American homes.

No lily is worth your cat's kidneys.

The Easiest Way to Freeze Corn on the Cob – No Blanching Needed! 🌽❄️

I’m never going back to the old way again! This raw-pack method gives you the freshest, crispiest corn straight from the freezer — it tastes like you just picked it. My family is hooked, and it’s ridiculously simple!

Freezer Corn on the Cob (Raw Pack)
Instructions:
1. Shuck the corn and remove all the silk under cold running water.
2. Trim the ends of each cob.
3. Vacuum seal the ears (or use freezer bags and remove as much air as possible).
4. Label and freeze flat.

To Use:
Thaw slightly if needed, then cook as usual — boil, grill, or microwave. The corn stays sweet, crisp, and incredibly fresh-tasting. No mushy texture from blanching!

I’ve already put away over 13 dozen this season, and I’ll be doing more cream-style corn soon. This is such a fast, zero-waste way to enjoy garden corn all year long.

This is so coool!!!

A golden eagle in the Rockies has been escorting lost hikers back to the main trail for the past month.
Hikers in Rocky Mountain National Park kept reporting the same thing: when they got turned around on side trails, a large golden eagle would appear overhead, circle once or twice, then fly slowly in one direction while looking back at them. Those who followed the bird found themselves back on the main trail within 15-20 minutes.
Rangers thought it was coincidence until a father and his young son got badly lost at dusk. The eagle not only guided them but landed on a rock nearby and waited when the boy got tired. The father got the whole thing on video. Park staff later confirmed this particular eagle has done this at least seven times in recent weeks, always with solo or struggling hikers.
They’ve nicknamed her “Compass.” Some locals believe she might have been rehabilitated and released years ago, which is why she’s unusually comfortable around people. Hikers are now sharing sightings so others know — if you see Compass circling, you might be off trail.

I’m never going back to store-bought cornbread mixes again! This big batch version is quick to make, stores beautifully, and gives you fresh, homemade cornbread in minutes whenever you want it. Just add a few wet ingredients and bake — it’s perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute meals.

Dry Mix Ingredients (makes about 8 batches):
* 8 cups all-purpose flour
* 6 cups cornmeal
* 1½ cups sugar
* 7 Tbsp baking powder
* 2 Tbsp salt

Instructions for Mix:
1. In a very large bowl, combine all dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
2. Store in a large airtight container or jar. Label with the instructions below.
To Make One Batch of Cornbread:
* 2 cups dry mix
* 2 eggs
* 1 cup milk
* ¼ cup melted butter

Baking Instructions:
* Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
* Mix wet ingredients with 2 cups dry mix until just combined.
* Pour into a greased 8×8 pan and bake 20–25 minutes, or into muffin tins and bake 15–20 minutes.

Serving Ideas:
* Classic: Warm with butter and maple syrup for breakfast
* Sweet: Top with fresh berries and whipped cream
* Savory: Add green chiles and shredded cheese to the batter

This mix is such a pantry staple! It makes cornbread almost effortless and tastes so much better than anything from a box.
