A watched flower never blooms… right? 😅

So as you all may or may not know, growing flowers is basically a second full-time job to my first full-time job. Haha.

Today I got to chatting with a coworker who is also a hobbyist grower and I told her how badly I wanted dahlias this year. Of course, they’ve had buds on them forever but not a single bloom. I swear I’ve checked them a hundred times. 👀

Well, after work today, I stopped by the patch to do some weeding while Joe was finishing up mowing and laying down fresh straw. And what does he tell me?

There’s a dahlia in bloom! 🌸

🌧️🌼 A little flower field update…
Yesterday, the rain and wind came down HARD on our flower patch, and our marigolds and celosia definitely took a beating. We spent some time today assessing the damage and doing a little much-needed weeding.

And speaking of surprises… we found something growing right in the middle of the flowers that definitely doesn’t belong there… A PUMPKIN! (We planted the flowers in last years pumpkin field)

The weeds have also been absolutely wild this year. It seems like we turn around and they’ve taken over again.

So, bear with us as we work through this process. We’re doing our best to salvage the flower plants that were damaged by the rain and get everything looking its best again. Despite the setbacks, the field is STILL putting on a show, and we’re so excited to watch it continue to grow and bloom. 💛

We’ll be the first to admit that we’ve made plenty of rookie mistakes this year. But with every mistake comes a lesson, and we have LOTS of notes already written down for next year. We’re learning as we go and will use everything we’ve learned this season to make our fields even better in the years ahead.

Thank you for bearing with us, cheering us on, and enjoying the process with us. Farming and growing flowers is definitely a learning experience, but we’re loving every minute of it.
