Hot days call for cool cows! 🌾☀️

Did you know Jersey cows are naturally a bit more heat tolerant than Holsteins? Research has shown that Jerseys often maintain a lower body temperature during periods of heat stress, helping them better cope with those long summer days. ☀️

Even with that advantage, every cow needs help staying cooled off! At the OSU Ferguson Family Dairy Center, our cows have fans and misters to help beat the Oklahoma heat. Combined with plenty of fresh water and attentive care, these cooling systems help keep our herd comfortable, healthy, and productive all summer long. 🌬️💦

✨Student Spotlight✨

Hi, My name is Tucker Smith and I am a Freshman studying Animal Science. I am originally from Duvall, Washington. I have spent the last four years involved with dairy cattle, working and showing, which has given me a deep appreciation for the dairy industry. Along with dairy, I showed market hogs all through high school which has helped me grow my skills across different parts of the livestock industry.
I am still trying to figure out what I want to do long term after graduating, but I am very interested in farm management and animal welfare. I enjoy learning by doing and being involved in day to day work that keeps the farm running. Working in this industry has been a big part of my life and I can’t wait to continue it at the OSU dairy.
