We've never been the kind of operation that chases one number. An animal has to earn its keep across the board here, growth, structure, maternal ability, and phenotype all have to be there, not just one standout trait that looks good on paper.
That's what multi-trait selection means to us in practice, and it's a big part of why our genetics hold up whether they're headed to a show ring or straight out into a commercial pasture.

Back in 1972, Henry Lyssy made the switch to Beefmaster bulls on his commercial herd here in Stockdale, and it didn't take long to see why. Those calves were coming with more vigor and more growth than anything else running in this part of Texas at the time.

That one decision set the next fifty years in motion. His sons Lawrence and George took the operation from commercial into purebred Beefmasters, and today his grandson Lauren is the one running things day to day, still chasing that same standard of performance the family started with.
