You can now buy Chocolates El Rey by the pound at Farms on Main! Located in Newberry, South Carolina, this Latina-owned business sells bulk foods, local produce, and eco-friendly products. What a great new home for our all natural, ethically sourced chocolate! 😍

Cacao trees only grow in a specific equatorial band called the "Cacao Belt," which sits within roughly 20 degrees North and South of the equator where the climate is hot, humid, and rainforest-like.
Because cacao is strictly equatorial, famous chocolate-making countries like Switzerland and Belgium don't grow their own. However, Chocolates El Rey is a direct-trade, "tree-to-bar" manufacturer located in Venezuela. Since 1929, “Chocolates El Rey” has been manufacturing fine chocolates in Venezuela using Venezuelan beans. Premium single-origin chocolate with ethically sourced and sustainably farmed cacao.

Here's some crazy chocolate math for you...

It takes about 400 cacao beans to make a single pound of chocolate.

A single Theobroma cacao tree can produce around 2,000 a year... the equivalent of five pounds of chocolate.

If the US consumes 2.84 billion pounds of chocolate a year, that requires around 586 million Theobroma cacao trees to supply one country ALONE!

Mind. Blown.
