Tending the critters, testing new coatings, pirating old docks to make new ones & splitting all the winter oyster bags has been keeping us busy (not shown: shucking class, pulling & relaunching boats, installing shed, jacking up floats, de-rigging seaweed lines, etc, etc).

It hailed, it snowed, the sun came out, we moved some floats & launched some boats. The list of repairs & things that need attention don’t seem to be getting shorter (that float is next level 🫣).
BUT IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE ON THE WATER!! Can’t wait to start raising lines tomorrow and see those oysters!

Nice to have a little mention! What a winter it has been!

The deep freeze on the East Coast will still be felt during the summer. Long Island oysters will be in short supply.

Ice is moving out of the pound! It took minutes to get oysters vs hours last week. 35 degrees & sun really make a difference!

Another day freeing oysters from the ice-an extra set of hands & chainsaw worked well, even if it made me soaked…things you didn’t think of when you decided to be an oyster farmer in winter…

Ice is more than 6’ thick- struggling to get oysters out for wholesale & struggling with those damn crate latches! Sweaty body, frozen toes..

🦪 Cold storage turned into a deep freezer today-had to work to free up some oysters *not shown* one of my legs going through the ice.
