Everyone asks how they keep their quail warm on cold nights, and the response is carbs, carbs, carbs. Why? Its like throwing pine in your wood stove quick fast heat and p**f its gone. I dont feed extra carbs at all. This is beef tallow rendered down i do myself and freeze in jars. This is added to their feed, fat content is something that every feed lacks for quail. I elevate the fat content year round. But more importantly in winter it is a dense energy source producing twice the energy of carbs and also helping them to regulate their body temp. Lard will do the same and then move into the seed oils. But the best results come from the animal fats. So throw some oak in the stove and keep that fire burning all night. This can be done with chickens also. Just passing along info I’ve learned about over the years and produces some good results for me.
