Stoughton VFW, Post #328 This is the official page of the Stoughton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #328, The Mother P WE KNOW WHAT IS IMPORTANT!
(214)

As the first organized chapter in the state of Wisconsin, the Stoughton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post holds a high honor and deep history in the state for the advocacy for veterans who fought overseas and in patriotic and public service rendered for a over a century by the entire Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. The Veterans of Foreign Wars emerged as a movement in 1899 among veterans of the

1898-99 Spanish-American War. The first true overseas war of the United States involving the large-scale mobilization of expeditionary units, composed of Regular Armed Forces, and short-term recruitment into Volunteer units, the veterans of that war fulfilled a dire want for fellowship between themselves, and the advocacy for the rights and honors due to all who served and fought. By the early 20th Century, and following the end in 1902 of the Philippine Insurrection that resulted from the war with Spain, there existed no national system of medical services or pensions for the wounded survivors and those discharged. Early chapters in several Midwest states led to a national membership of 5000 in 1915, and 200,000 in 1936. Over the century, and here in Wisconsin, the VFW has been both important to improving the benefits
for men and women veterans, recognition of honor and monuments to the fallen and survivors, and
most critically, the improvement of medical and Veterans Affairs services for former servicemen and
servicewomen. As a patriotic ethic, the VFW helps to ensure the future of a strong America and a
sound system of government via recognition of the achievements of outstanding young Americans and
through the system of scholarships and savings bonds for their post-secondary education. Among the
most significant philanthropists of the United States, the VFW and its Auxiliary organizations, serve
the communities in which they post through countless forms of volunteerism in virtually every aspect
of American community life. OUR MISSION: To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve
our veterans, the military, and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans. OUR VISION: Ensure that veterans are respected for their service, always receive their earned
entitlements, and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this
great country. OUR CORE VALUES:

Always put the interests of our members first
Treat donors as partners in our cause
Promote patriotism
Honor military service
Ensure the care of veterans and their families
Serve our communities
Promote a positive image of the VFW
Respect the diversity of veteran opinions

Freedom Isn't Freeโ€”And Neither Is History. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

As our nation prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, the members of VFW Post 328 are proud to invite the community to participate in a special project that honors both our nation's past and its future.
From June 8 through July 10, residents of all ages can sign a commemorative copy of the Declaration of Independence and become part of a permanent historical record. Every signature collected will be preserved in a leather-bound volume that will be housed in the Stoughton Public Library for generations to come.
For veterans, the Declaration of Independence is more than a historic document. It represents the freedoms and principles that generations of Americans have answered the call to defend. This project provides an opportunity for all of us to reflect on those ideals while leaving our own small mark on this historic milestone.
VFW Post 328 is honored to serve as one of the five signing locations for this community-wide effort. We encourage veterans, families, students, and community members to stop in, sign the Declaration, and help commemorate America's Semiquincentennial celebration.
