Hey friends of The Old Abbott Farm! I thought I would take a minute on this rainy day to introduce myself!

You may know my mom, Sarah. She is a select person in Stow, owner of Cold River Property Services, and the owner of The Old Abbott Farm!

I’m her daughter, Rachael Layne, and over the past year or so I have been baking sourdough off and on for our farmstand. I’m a former substitute teacher for our local school district and recently became a stay at home mom starting in 2025.

I have a passion for making sourdough bread and would love to offer fresh bread to our community, along with other baked goods!

Baking bread and setting it out on the stand has not been the most successful for me lately. The sun causes condensation in the bags and some weeks, I do not sell all of my bread.

That being said, I would like to introduce you to our preorder system! This is how it will work:
-You can order through the muffin app website: https://themuffinapp.com/stores/the-old-abbott-farm
-I will fill orders weekly and put them in bags with customers’ names on them.
-Bags will be set out on the farm stand for pick up on Saturday mornings from 9AM to 12PM.

So far, you can preorder original sourdough bread, but my sister, Lindsay, and I will be adding more to this in the coming weeks!

On another note: we will be participating in our first market at Moonstruck Mercantile in Bridgton on October 10th. There won’t be any preorders that week due to the market, but you are welcome to come visit us over there!

I am super excited to be baking bread for our community, making connections with my neighbors, and seeing where this little business can take me!

Why Sourdough Bread??
The three biggest reasons for choosing sourdough over other breads:

1. Easier digestion! Longer fermentation process and the use of wild yeast/healthy bacteria is great for gut health! This type of bread is great for people with sensitive stomachs too!
2. Fermentation changes the starch structure in the bread, leading to a slower breakdown of sugars and preventing the sharp blood sugar spikes commonly caused by conventional white or whole wheat breads.
3. 3 ingredients! Flour, water, and salt. Bread from the grocery store can have 10+ ingredients, many that you can’t pronounce. Homemade sourdough bread is a bread you can trust!
