This week’s w**e tasting explores the rich w**emaking history of Gaillac, one of France’s oldest w**e regions, by contrasting two exceptional expressions of its unique terroir. Both are casual bottles crafted for pure drinking pleasure. By tasting them side-by-side, we can appreciate how these neighboring w**emakers blend noble grapes like Merlot and Syrah with hyper-local indigenous varieties to achieve vibrant, fruit-forward freshness.
Domaine Cinq Peyres “Impeccable” is a vibrant, red w**e produced by w**emaker Charles Bonnafont from high-altitude limestone and white clay soils. Combining regional favorites like Gamay, Merlot, and Syrah, the result is a crisp, light-bodied, and incredibly juicy “vin glouglou” that bursts with notes of fresh strawberries, crunchy red berries, and delicate floral violets.
Château Les Vignals “Soif-Art” Rouge is a biodynamic blend from the nearby village of Cestayrols, combining a dominant base of Merlot and Syrah with the ancient local grape, Duras. It is intensely ruby-red leading with dark blackberry aromas that finish with a lively, peppery wild strawberry kick.
Stop by, grab a taste, and find your new favorite bottle. See you tomorrow! 🥂👇
