WHAT IS A GARLIC SCAPE ANYWAY????? 🤔

Garlic scapes are the flower bud of the garlic plant. The bud is removed in late June to encourage the bulbs to thicken up. Scapes taste just like garlic. They can be used in exactly the same way as garlic in any recipe.

We sprinkled them in our fried eggs the other morning and will be putting them in our Sausage Kale soup tonight. Very delish!

Raw, sautéed, roasted, pickled. They compliment and add great flavor to any dish!

It's a beautiful morning! It's not raining!! 👍🏻😊 Chad will be at the Festival Farmers Market this morning with kale, salad greens, turnips, radishes, celery, garlic scapes, strawberries, and maple syrup.

Market day!

A nice cool morning for a walk through the farmers market. Chad will be at Festival from 8-1 pm with celery, cucumbers, colored peppers, a variety of beans, tomatoes, squash, turnips, grass-fed beef, pastured pork, and maple syrup. Also after popular request, Maple Meadows finally has BUSINESS CARDS! 😀

Quick Fact:

Baby or "cocktail" carrots you buy are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into baby carrots. You might have known that already. But what you might not know is that once the carrots are cut and shaped into mini carrots, they are submerged into a bleach bath in order to help them look enticing for a longer amount of time.

Processed carrots begin to develop a white, chalk-like appearance after just a few days, as opposed to whole, unprocessed carrots, which may be stored in your fridge for several weeks or more without deteriorating.
