Another herd of baby Large Black/Berkshire pigs has arrived at the farm, thanks to Skeenah Gap Farms in Georgia. These are the best pigs in every way possible. Temperament, health, vitality, potential for lard fat, cuteness, and growth rate!! These pigs were recently weaned and will be raised on chemical free, non-GMO, and soy-free feed. Also on pasture, they just go in a horse stall for a couple of nights to calm down from their journey and adjust to their new home place. Little pigs are just the cutest!!

Sometimes a break from the unending work is needed. Sometimes a mother needs to get away, and leave her capable children with their capable father and take a few days to breath slowly and relax. I got to do this with my sister and dear friend. We made a stop in Appalachicola and shopped at the White Oaks Pasture general store. Tacos De Lengua were eaten, tallow candles were purchased, and a wonderful time was had. Now back to rubbing the pregnant bellies of my sows and feeding a whole host of creatures, both human and livestock.

My daughters rode their horses in training today. Monty rode her 3 year old c**t, and Maggie rode the pony that she is allowed to borrow from time to time, who is still in training. It’s crazy how different these two horses are in size, and also in demeanor. Generally, the big one is calm, and the little one likes to always walk very fast. But today, they were both very chill and walked together at the same pace, even though the little one took many more steps than the big one. I love how they line up with the energies of my daughters. Like rider, like horse!!

Well y'all, after taking a breather we've rested enough to be again delighted at the thought of seeing all of y'all down on the farm.

Our next show is June 10th & o are we excited!

What kind of music do The Flat Lambruscos play? Well, they're arbiters of the h***y swampy tonk genre. Think a low-country style of country favorites.

We had baby pigs born on the farm a few days ago! My beautiful gilt Ginger (Large Black/Berkshire) and the Black Wattle boar made beautiful babies. Ginger, the momma, is amazing to watch with her babies. She birthed 11 her very first time!! And only one runt that we’re giving some extra TLC until she’s big enough to go back with the litter full time. Of course we had to name that one Wilma instead of Wilbur, since she’s a girl. They will live in the barn where it’s warmer and safer for a short time before they get to go out in the pasture.

This is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever watched and experienced in my life. My 12 year old daughter riding her not quite 3 year old c**t. This horse has had very few rides with the trainer, Josh Rutherford, and he’s doing so well that Montalee rode him in the round pen (even though it has recently been partially torn down by a wild cow), and she and the c**t did an amazing job!! Needless to say Montalee is super stoked, and Reggie the c**t seems to be enjoying his new job as well. Montalee is certainly on track to become a “horse whisperer” one day soon. Much thanks to Josh Rutherford for training Reggie so gently, and much thanks to Uncle John for training Josh so well!❤️

I got to feed a lot of hay to the cattle last week. And it was sooooo cold! Got some help from the husband over the weekend. And Montalee’s pinto mare and paint gelding have fallen in love in the dead of winter. It’s quite magical.

As Montalee’s 2 1/2 year old c**t is learning how to serve a human companion, Monty is also learning how to ride him and use communication skills vs dominance and fear. They are both blowing my mind with how well they’re doing!! Thank you Josh for reaching them both. Start them young and start them right. It’s very difficult to unlearn bad habits, best to start off the horse and the human the correct way. These lessons for both of them will make for a lifetime successful riding and future training.
