I culled the sheep hard this year focusing on Dorper genetics and cut our flock in half which meant some of our favorites had to go so we can focus on a registered Dorper flock with good body attributes. Lambing took a pause for a week and then we got back at it tonight with Pearl. She’s the last of our original favorite Katahdin offspring. She has triplets every year and tonight Gabby ran and got me and said there was a sheep having babies and didn’t look right. I went out there and saw her pushing. She had one lamb out that was dry and a large bag sticking out the back end. When I went to feel there were two heads and no legs. The one head that was first for sure appeared to be gone already and I focused on saving Pearl. I tried pulling and pushing and called on Brian. He was able to push them both back in and poor Pearl handled it best she could😬 he was able to pull them out then one by one and somehow they were both alive-Yellow, (signs of distress) but both alive. Pearl’s recovery was a little slow so we supplemented colostrum and gave some “Baby Lamb Strength” from Premier 1 that I swear by. Pearl seems to be doing okay after some meds and hoping for a good outcome. 🤞it’s a scrub brush to the nails kind of night with a side of bourbon. Now eating a cold supper at 8:30 pm but that’s farming 😵💫🥴onto calving season 🐮
