It’s been almost a decade since I’ve regularly vended at a market. So feeling rusty! I’ll be at the Sturgeon Bay Farmer’s Market from 8-12 today. Find me on Nebraska Street just up from the library.

Here in Door County, the Cherry blossoms are in full bloom. 🍒🌸
(This is a true statement. However, the photo is not of a cherry tree, but of a crabapple in our yard. To be fair, the crabapple is beautiful and smells amazing.)

Stjarni, a handsome moorit grey badgerface lamb, is the biggest of the group because he’s Spola’s only lamb. I haven’t been weighing for gains lately as tourist season in Door County has hit. I need to round everyone up for a health check and will be giving Covexin 8 shots and tagging ears.

Tomorrow is shearing day. Sheep are rounded up, as they need empty bellies before shearing.

Each spring I try to find the date that allows for the wool rise for easier shearing, but not so late so our fall shearing is nice. Winter fleece can result in matted backs, which becomes fantastic mulch. There is also lots of hay in the wool, so the cleaner wool turns into dryer balls it gets felted into little sheep ornaments.
