Fudge had his first full day with the dogtraofficial GPS collar and did great! He learned boundaries quickly and he hasn’t tried to jump the fences in a week. Now to train him that welcome mats are not fun to chew on 🤣

Still some room in my Intro to Nalbinding class that starts this Saturday from 1-2:30 at The Naked Sheep Yarn Shop & Gift Boutique in Sturgeon Bay. This two session workshop you will learn the Oslo stitch and make fingerless gloves. Yarn and wooden needle provided.

A new era here with a new ram! Woollyhorn Farm Olaffur is our new ram lamb who will be breeding with our seven ewes this fall. His paternal grandfather is AI genetics from a ram named Grettir in Iceland and maternal side features Kind Horn Farm lines from the East Coast and desirable West Coast lines as well, which will help freshen up the gene pool. I won’t shear him this fall because he’s young and will be busy chasing the ladies.

His parents have not developed any silver flashing in their wool, so let’s hope for a jet black ram as he grows!

The best people raise Icelandic sheep. Amanda from Woollyhorn Farm has been one of my mentors and friends since the beginning. And finally meeting Brian and Kim from Lakeview Family Homestead has expanded the shepherding circle. What a treat yesterday!

Hands down, the best part of our trip to Wisconsin was meeting Amanda from Woollyhorn Farm and Amanda from Long R***e Farm. These women not only provided most of our starter flock two years ago, but also have been great mentors. We appreciate them both so much!

We drove a trailer of sheep towards the fading Harvest Moon this morning for freezer camp. Thank you Stewart and four of your sons - Asker, Ragnar, Njordor and Nesse.

This day is the hardest part for me - I cried last night and this morning and my small flock now looks tiny. But I take comfort knowing their meat will nourish families through the winter.

Shearing day today. Will post before and after pics later - long morning and I’m hungry! We sheared all six ram lambs for two reasons:

1) we needed to find the best ram lamb for my friend Sarah and we ended up switching out from my initial first choice.
2) I’m not a fan of prepping hides and have a higher demand for yarn. We will still prep and tan Stewart’s hide after freezer camp.

My choice for whether is actually the ram lamb with the best conformation, but his horns are very narrow and he’s really friendly. So he’ll be kept for his glorious fiber.
