The Blizzard of "49 was spoken of often by my parents, Tige and Vicky Reinhold. Mom grew up East River and her Dad, Walter, worked for Bon Homme County. He spent most of the winter opening roads of the massive snowdrifts that continued to build up throughout the season. The winter came down hard West River in January. This is a photo of Dad (Tige) riding across the hard drifts over the trees behind our house. Many stories were borne during this difficult winter.
Dad talked often of '49, using it as sort of a benchmark...until October 2013. For when Storm Atlas hit, and the devastation... "he would in quietness, just shake his head. True, every storm and difficult winter are different... difficult to rank....but, from each of them, more life stories are borne.
