How do we classify the different soil zones?

Starting at the surface level...👇
ZONE 1: Eroded knolls, hills, sands, low OM, driest
ZONE 2: Shoulder slopes, upper slopes, sheds water
ZONE 3: Mid-slope, average soil PI
ZONE 4: Toes slopes, lower flats
ZONE 5: Depressions, saline, high OM, water collection, wet

BaselineRx zones tell us where the soil within a field is similar. We use the Indicator Soil Test to look at biological, structural and chemical components of the soil. This dynamic duo gives us a better understanding of how the soil in different areas of the field is going to provide and cycle nutrients so we can manage fertility more efficiently.

Microbes are believed to be one of the hardiest living organisms on the planet. But, do they need to hibernate during the winter months? 🤔

Microbes are able to survive in the harshest conditions, including temperatures ranging from a chilling -13ºF to a sweat dropping 260ºF. Once the ground is frozen in the winter, microorganisms actually shift gears from making nutrients available to crops to primarily focusing on degrading organic carbon.

So the answer is NO, microbes do not hibernate during the winter months, they are in fact very much active. Those guys won't be taking any time off or holiday breaks this season! 💪
