Asia delivered her ewe lamb for us after we attended a Memorial Day cousin lunch in town. Asia is a great momma and the next order of business will be getting everyone sheared for summer! (except the littles) We now need 3 female Greek mythology related names that begin with A for Asia’s and Alope’s babes.

Alope is such a good momma! She birthed these two on her own, out in the warm grass on Saturday, and just settled right in like a good momma.

This is Alope! She is Asia’s daughter and this is her first year lambing. She is two years old and has lived on the farm her whole life. In Greek mythology Alope was a mortal princess who had a dalliance with Poseidon, who then transformed her into a flowing spring.

This is Asia, our second Icelandic ewe. In Greek mythology Asia was the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. If Asia has ewe lambs that we keep, their names will begin with A as well. Asia is considered a Mouflon as coloring goes because she has mostly dark brown/black fleece, but with a little lighter brown on the belly and around the eyes. She has a history of twins, but we’ll see what she gifts us with this year! 🥰

This lady. Her name is Hazel and she’s one of our Icelandic ewes. She is quite…….expectant, right now, along with two more Icelandic ewes on the farm. We will post photos of the others as well. Hazel was more willing to stand for a photo today than Asia or Alope. We will keep ewe lambs for future breeding when they are two. If she has ram lambs, they are sold to another farm that needs a ram or they go to butcher at one year old. Any ewes kept are named using the first letter of Mom’s name (in this case, H) and then following Greek mythology. We look forward to seeing what she has for babies this year!
