We try to save seeds as much as possible around here to ensure we are growing strong plants that will thrive here. I have to hide the bigger seeds as I dry them to store or the mice will find them.
When preparing seeds to be saved, I remove as many as I can from the item and put them in a bowl. I rinse them with cold water and pull out any "foreign debris" (anything not a seed) and any seeds that seem flat or immature. Once I've sorted through it, I dump them on a towel to remove the bulk of the moisture. From there, they are transferred onto paper plates (no rhyme or reason, that's just what I use π€π€·ββοΈ) to finish air drying. I try not to mound up too many per plate, but as long as it is in a well ventilated and dry space, you can stir them around once a day and wait for signs they are ready to be put away. My telltale sign they are ready to be put away is when they "shed their skins". π€·ββοΈ It will start with just a few, but in a day or 2, they will all shed and that's when I know they are dried and ready to be packed away for another season.
