There's still time.
There is still time to learn something new.
Still time to try again.
Still time to do better.
Still time to grow as a person.
As the seasons change, it's difficult to ignore the changes happening right in front of me. The gardens are dying off, the animals are adjusting, and the leaves are changing.
But nature doesn't fight the coming change. It won't cling to what it was just because it was familiar. Everything will change when the season asks it to. They let go and trust that there will be another season to come.
If the leaves can change and adapt to a changing season, then so can I.

There is still time. 🌿🍂
And maybe that's one of the greatest things this little farm has given me - the reminder that starting over, learning, changing, and growing aren't signs that we've failed. They're signs that we're still here.

Meat chickens will be processed in maybe a month? We use our oldests birthday as a guide for when to be butchering meat chickens, but also the start to the holiday season (Merry Christmas, I am so excited 🎄)
Also, this isn't the tiniest tractor you ever saw. They flocked to one side thinking I had something for them (I did not)

Things this week I wasn’t fully aware of:

• what day it is
• my dog will apparently put herself in timeout outside because even SHE knows she stinks (see my recent skunk post if you missed it)
• everyone is in agreement that insurance is a scam, but nobody seems to have figured out what we’re supposed to do about it
• I can continue to function on caffeine and pure spite
• I am, in fact, a chauffeur for barn lime. Got in my car today and realized it was already buckled in and ready to go absolutely nowhere fast. 😂

Anyway… happy Wednesday. Or Tuesday. Or Thursday. 🤷‍♀️ while we're at it, Happy Easter.

Today Mabel chose a personal fragrance for the house: skunk.

While creating some concoction I found online to wash Mabel with, I turned around to find my oldest had sprayed the entire house with her body spray and was wearing an old reusable COVID mask.

So now my house smells like skunk mixed with some kind of coconut Hawaiian island. 🌴🦨

BRB, going to smother my face in a pillow and rethink every decision that led me to this exact moment. 😭😅

Life looks vastly different around here than it did a year ago. Shoot, even a few months ago.

A lot has changed. Some things we expected, some things we never saw coming and while we’re still figuring out what this next chapter of life and the farm looks like, there are a few things that somehow remain exactly the same: hatching day.

Hatching day reminds me that things can change, plans can change, life can change but no matter what: life keeps going, things keep moving, and there is still always room to grow 🌱

Our quail are looking for new addresses... preferably yours. 🫣😅

My husband loaded the incubator without fully considering the consequences, and now we've got a tiny mob of quail (x90) in a brooder. Just hatched this week (July 28- July 30), they are jumbo brown coturnix.

On the bright side, they're one of our kids' favorite meats besides pork (and according to our 6 year old, seafood - but I for sure am not becoming a fisherman anytime soon, so quail is the best I can do. Sorry, bud. 🖤)

Help me help you... and help me explain to my husband that maybe we don't need a to start a quail mafia?? 🤪
