Life looks vastly different around here than it did a year ago. Shoot, even a few months ago.

A lot has changed. Some things we expected, some things we never saw coming and while we’re still figuring out what this next chapter of life and the farm looks like, there are a few things that somehow remain exactly the same: hatching day.

Hatching day reminds me that things can change, plans can change, life can change but no matter what: life keeps going, things keep moving, and there is still always room to grow 🌱

Our quail are looking for new addresses... preferably yours. 🫣😅

My husband loaded the incubator without fully considering the consequences, and now we've got a tiny mob of quail (x90) in a brooder. Just hatched this week (July 28- July 30), they are jumbo brown coturnix.

On the bright side, they're one of our kids' favorite meats besides pork (and according to our 6 year old, seafood - but I for sure am not becoming a fisherman anytime soon, so quail is the best I can do. Sorry, bud. 🖤)

Help me help you... and help me explain to my husband that maybe we don't need a to start a quail mafia?? 🤪

Well... there's a first for everything. 😅 We got ghosted over some piglets.

If you're local, you know it's been raining, muddy, and pretty chilly today—especially for piglets.

We pulled them away from breakfast, got them rounded up, and had them under tarps waiting. They still ended up wet, cold, and a little stressed for no reason.

Just a heads-up to other local farms: this individual arranged a pickup, got our address, confirmed the day, and then blocked us instead of simply saying they weren't coming. Screenshots below.

No hard feelings about not getting the piglets—that happens. Just please communicate. A quick "I've changed my mind" takes 10 seconds and saves everyone (especially the animals) the unnecessary hassle.

Things have changed for us, but one thing that hasn't changed are pigs are still here and piglets being born 🥰
We changed out breeders about a year ago to New Hampshire (with a little bit of Duroc) from Rocky Ridge Heritage Hogs.
🐷These cuties are 8-9 weeks old.
🐷All boys have been cut.
🐷6 barrows and 2 gilts available - the reddish one is pending pick up ❤️🤍

All jokes aside: one bad moment. That's always our goal. And really, they don't know the moment is even coming. It's all as quick as possible for them (not as quick for us with preparing, cleaning, processing, butchering)
