It has been a little chilly the last couple days.

What is happening at Blair Crest Farm you ask? Well, all piggies are here and doing great. If you ordered a pig from us, it will be ready in October. I will also have pork for sale then. If you are looking for Ham for any of the holidays, let me know so I can get them for you.

Garden is doing very well. Tomatoes, onions, green and red peppers, carrots, lettuce, spinach, red lettuce, cherry tomatoes, pie pumpkins, spaghetti squash, acorn squash, zucchini, cucumbers, rhubarb, beans and peas. Had 2 low beds and 2 raised beds I did not get cleaned out for dirt so that will be next years project.

Will have Jersey beef available in August. We have 8 beef for next year and 3 are Wagyu. If you are interested in beef, send me a message.

Have a great evening everyone.

Such a beautiful day we have out there. Bought a new bread pan to make more like a sandwich loaf and just had to try it out. Made a loaf this morning. Sooo good. Looks like I will be using this pan from now on.

Well I finished my butter. Never will I do 2 gallons of milk again. It too me a quite a while to rinse the butter to make sure all the milk is out of it. If you don’t do this it will turn rancid. How you know if all the milk is out of it, is when the water when you squeeze it is clear and not milky colored. Stick with small batches. I have 5.7 pounds of butter out of 2 gallons of our Jersey milk. Jersey cows have a high butter fat content so that is why I had so much butter.
My next goal is to take some of this butter and make ghee to can. Once canned, it is shelf stable for many years.

Finished all the separating out cream from our milk. I have a little over 2 gallons of cream in my butter churn. I have not started on the cottage cheese as it is too cold yet. Will start that tomorrow. Stay tuned for butter.

What a beautiful day we have. Get out there and enjoy the sunshine. I will be posting a series of making cottage cheese and butter with our milk. The first picture of the day is showing my cream separator. The skim milk is on the left and the cream is on the right. The skim milk I will be making cheese and the cream I will be turning into butter. Stay tuned for the next picture/video (if I can figure it out) of me making cottage cheese.

This is the final product with mashed potatoes and peas. Nice meal after a busy day on the farm.
