From Our Family Boats to Your Family Table:
With a desire to do something more with his shrimp, Kenneth Garcia recruited his sister Regina Garcia Pena in 2002 to sell it. came on board to create Philly Seafood. The men wanted to have more control over their shrimp production, but it was Regina who was determined to change the way the company did business. She shifted the organization from just sel

ling shrimp to developing a brand that represented the family's values of hard work and dedication. Philly Seafood is a family business with a family name. Regina's son, Daniel Phillip Pena III, lost his life in a tragic accident when he was four years old. Regina takes great care with the company's image and reputation because her son's memory is intertwined with the organization. The company's success and growth is based on the fundamental principles of integrity, quality and service. It manages the harvest, production, packaging, marketing and selling of the shrimp from family owned boats. Philly Seafood is now a recognized brand in the retail seafood landscape across the United States. Our Family: Over 60 Years of Tradition, Pride and Family
It began in 1952 when our parents, Antonia and Edward Garcia, Sr. bought their first shrimp boat, Texas 18. Edward was the first Hispanic Gulf shrimp boat owner in Matagorda Bay. Shortly after getting into the business, his trawler was destroyed in an act of violence. Dad regrouped and within 6 months purchased his second boat, Texas 1. Over the years, life for the Texas shrimper has ebbed and flowed. During the 1960s, the sh*****ng industry was very profitable. Operating expenses were low and the catch was bountiful. By the 1970s there was a change in the tide. The soaring price of fuel, higher interest rates and the movement to steel hull boats dramatically increased the costs of boat production and ownership. Hard times continued through the early 1980s, forcing many in the industry out of business. Dad made smart business decisions and was able to weather the storm, while others sank. The family business began to change dramatically in the mid 80's when the boys, their sons, started to expand the company. They had always worked with the boats but were now becoming boat owners. As time passed, the number of vessels grew to make the Garcia fleet the largest privately owned group in the United States. The partnerships now extend to harvesting, producing, marketing and selling our shrimp. Currently, Edward and Antonia have four sons, two daughters, four nephews and many grandsons who are actively involved in the family business. Sh*****ng is a way of life for our family and it is a life we take great pride in!

Big day in the Seafood Capital of Texas! 🦐🌊 We had the honor of welcoming Commissioner Sid Miller to Palacios for a tour of what makes our community so special our world-class domestic shrimp and aquaculture products.
To commemorate the occasion, Mayor Rick Cink proudly presented Commissioner Miller with a Key to the City a symbol of how much this visit means to Palacios. 🔑💙

On Friday evening, June 27th, the community gathered at the Port of Palacios as Fr. Eliecer Patiño of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church led a special Mass and Blessing of the Fleet ceremony.

This longstanding tradition honors the local sh*****ng industry by offering prayers for safety, prosperity, and a successful season ahead. Fishermen, families, and supporters lined the docks as vessels decorated with flags and flowers made a colorful procession through the bay.

Fr. Patiño offered heartfelt words and holy water to bless each boat, asking for protection over the crews and a fruitful harvest. The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the town’s deep maritime roots and the strength of its close-knit community.

With hearts full of hope and boats ready to sail, Palacios is officially gearing up for the 2025 shrimp season, which opens July 15th.
