When the boys were young, the family's activities included the International Professional Rodeo Association. Cathy made the IPRA finals in 1987 and was the first woman from Georgia to ever accomplish this. While at the finals she won the coveted average buckle. Mike made the IPRA finals in 1988 and 1989 received the "Calf Roping Horse of the Year" award on his horse Thunder. During the IPRA days,
Doug and Tim were 10 and 8 years old. They wanted a freeze brand for the family's horses and came up with a "Lightning Bolt" depicting "fast as lightning horses". In 1997, when the arena opened for business, the "P" was added for Pharr. Doug and Tim have been on the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Assn. circuit since 1997. Doug made the National Finals Rodeo in 2000, 2005, 2006 and 2008. Tim made the Dodge National Circuit Finals in 2001. Our Lightning P Family has grown by leaps and bounds. We are delighted to have a new daughter-in-law in the family. Tim married Shae Frazier of Redmond, OR in September of 2007. Conner McCrae arrived July 8, 2010. Lightning P's arena is a covered multi-event arena. There are 40 stalls and 17 RV hookups. There are a variety of events which include Georgia Junior Rodeo, South East Calf Roping and Barrel Racing Assn, and a regular Friday night Team Penning Practice. Mike gives roping lessons to the young and old and Cathy gives barrel racing lessons. Tim is an expert at breaking and starting colts. Lightning P Ranch encompasses 118 acres on the north edge of Gordon County. We are about 5 miles from I-75 at Exit 320.
