First off - he is ok. He just needs time to heal. Secondly - If you’ve been here, more than likely you’ve met our appropriately named Mascot. He comes out to greet people at every event - from circuses to rodeos and everything in between. But when you get ready to go, he says goodbye and heads back to his barn. My 11 year old daughter found him incessantly mewing buried deep down in the middle of a yucca plant on our new property here we had just bought - at the highway next to our driveway. That was 13 years ago. He was so little we didn’t know if he could eat yet and the vet couldn’t tell his gender. We didn’t live here, didn’t have any animals here yet but put him in the barn with a small bowl of milk and some tuna and hoped for the best. The best we got. We named him Mascot since he came with the place.
Friday evening a dog decided to unexpectedly leap out from inside a friend’s truck (who was in it and here for just 5 minutes) and instantly grabbed him. Fortunately, he was able to escape with some help. After an overnight stay at VSS in St Louis and some rest and medicine at home, he’s on the mend and doing much better.
HOWEVER - I post this to ask that if you see him when you’re here over the next month or two, feel free to pet and greet him, but please refrain from picking him up, and know he’s moving slower. He has 3 broken ribs and needs to heal. He normally lets anyone and everyone pick him up and drag him around, including kids, so if you have kids please make sure they also leave him be for awhile. He and we thank you, and we’re so glad he’ll be back to his normal self very soon ! 🐈⬛ 😊 Best. Barn. Cat. Ever. ❤️
